It’s a shame what has happened.
My take is that one needs to appreciate how useless “donate” buttons have become in an era where millions of sites have them. When something is so common, the human brain essentially ceases to even notice it.
The site needed to be more pro-active in fundraising. Case in point. I will bet you that FR raises a lot more money via a FReepathon than by the passive “support FR” notice on the home page.
Hell if I had known he needed money I would have happily made a donation. If only Obamafile had run an Obamafile Fundathon with a set goal of a few thousand bucks or whatever, I would bet it would still be here.

I mean..., he’s still there... so a little money to him might “talk”...
