So if I get pulled over by a police officer, I should tell him there are more important things like the economy, healthcare, the deficit that HE should be thinking about and not my speeding. Got It, thanks O.

“What an idiot. “

Maybe. But he has effectively controlled the conversation even here. We are no longer predominately focused on his health care takeover. The health care discussion has been effectively diminished by this well timed and well planned distraction.

He didn't hide anything. We knew who he was. We knew where he came from in the sense that he was raised and educated by American-hating Marxists. We knew that he was closely associated with domestic terrorists and racist community leaders. We knew enough about him that it can be said nothing he has done so far has been much of a surprise.

We knew he couldn't speak intelligibly without a teleprompter. We knew he had almost no experience in government, and no experience at all in running anything as simple as a lemonade stand. Yet there is still an alarming number of people cheering for this pretender as he takes control of a large segment of the American economy.

We (the American people) allowed him to be placed in one of the most powerful positions in the world. We gave a man who pledged to remake America the opportunity to do so. History and freedom be damned.

For so long, we have suffered the bombardment of media spin about how unfair we Americans are - that we're selfish, greedy, bullies - That we're no better than any other country. We've been conditioned over time to be ashamed of American greatness. Well these lessons finally stuck. He is the antithesis of everything America stands for and everything that made America great.

The dumb masses of this country got whipped into a frenzy fueled by the simple words "hope" and "change". The Obama movement worked the same way an angry mob works - it appealed to the basic, raw stupidity in dumbed-down, ignorant, lazy people who cannot recognize the American Constitution, but would damn sure recognize every no-talent starlet in photographs published in the tabloids.

It has been said that people get the government they deserve. Well, here we are. The people got their wish.

“He’s just making it worse. He should just shut up. Now he’s making even less sense than he did last night, when he said “I don’t know anything about it but. . . “ and then proceeded to prove his ignorance”
I like that ending better.
0bama “acted stupidly” by shooting his mouth off.

Is Obama so mentally ill that he doesn’t know where he leaves off and other people begin?

Does he think that a cop in Cambridge thinks: “Gee, Obama is so preoccupied with war, the economy, and healthcare, I shouldn’t make this arrest”?

It’s like Obama thinks the cop really has no mind or experience of his own, and must be always thinking about what Obama is thinking about.

Like, Obama is sort of the “soul” of the entire country. There’s just one Human Mind, thinking inside of all people—and that One Mind is Obama.

He’s just making it worse. He should just shut up.

No, he should keep trying to explain! He is digging himself in deeper. I don't believe I've ever heard a president say something quite as incredibly stupid as what he's just done. I mean, the original thing was stupid but this takes the cake!

And the beauty of it all is- the issue hasn't gone away. He'll be asked more questions about it.

You might just be speaking for yourself here. I think we are capable of thinking and acting on more than one issue at a time....in fact you can make that multiple issues.
It is folly to underestimate or even lump all FReepers.

"And my suspicion is that words were exchanged between the police officer and Mr. Gates and that everybody should have just settled down and cooler heads should have prevailed. That's my suspicion."

Obama represents a whole new class of idiocy. He's still making ignorant statements without familiarizing himself with the facts of the case, even though they're widely available. There is absolutely no evidence that officer Crowley acted in anything other than a professional manner, and for this President to say what he said above can only mean one thing: he is a racist, and like his friend Gates, he is a racist of the worst kind.

President Obama is simply too incompetent to continue holding the Highest office in the land, and he needs to be removed.

But he has effectively controlled the conversation even here.

I disagree. I think he has just blundered monumentally.

I bet he thought he could just open up his mouth and make the other statement just go away.

But he just dug his hole a lot deeper. Now, not only does he have to defend the original statement, he has opened up a whole can of worms with his defense of the original statement. The implications of his follow-up statement are actually worse than the original! He's just told every criminal in the country that they shouldn't be arrested for minor things in a time of economic crisis and war. How does one talk their way ot of that? I bet even Slick Willie is going 'Damn...' right now.

The media aren't going to give him a pass on this.

Obama will be getting minders pretty soon I would imagine.

That statement is just too much. I’m speechless except to say, What doesn’t make sense is the President of the U.S. commenting on the affair under the national circumstances he describes. He has it totally backwards. Why!?? That’s my question. He seems to have no concept of his role, what is appropriate, not in that role.

. . . with all that's going on in the country with health care and the economy and the wars abroad, "it doesn't make sense to arrest a guy in his own home if he's not causing a serious disturbance."

This is not a full quote from the President, but is a poorly written summary with a quote at the end. The press at its worst again. President Obama said that, in view of all the major events taking place, "issues like this get elevated in ways that don't make sense."

We can thank a reporterette from the Sun Times for starting things off, and Obama can thank himself for elevating the whole affair in a way that doesn't make sense. Meanwhile, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't take time to study the facts in this case, which clearly point to a citizen, not a police officer, "acting stupidly."
