Lawmakers reach out to Toyota

Jul. 23, 2009

WASHINGTON -- Members of California's congressional delegation are asking Toyota Motor Corp., officials what they could possibly do to help keep an automotive plant open in Fremont that employs 4,500 people.

Toyota has decided to liquidate its stake in the California manufacturing plant, which it jointly operated with General Motors, a Japanese news agency reported Thursday. The plant was established in 1984.

In their letter to Toyota President Akio Toyoda, lawmakers say the plant has been a great asset to the state's work force as well as to the company.

They say they look forward to hearing from Toyota and are eager to work together on what they called a "very important challenge. The contingent of lawmakers includes the state's two U.S. senators as well as 15 House members.

there's another buzz-term that's long overdue for retirement: "reach out." that, and "push back."

It’s part of Zer0’s US mfg plan. Kill all mfg. off and then mfg. employment can’t drop further.

This is easy.

So long as NUMMI (the GM/Toyota joint venture) was running the plant, Toyota was not a signatory to the UAW contract.

Now that GM has pulled out, Toyota still doesn't want to be a signatory.

Color them gone.

It is too late for the bloodsucking California rats to the detriment of many fine citizens. The rat future is deindustrialization, union controlled government services, and misery shared by everyone except for rats.

Wow... so you mean that the reason states like Michigan lose auto manufacturers isn’t because we lack cool cities, or aren’t as smart at people in California, or even are fatter than them?

Note to Toyota - stay away. Ignore the politicians do not go anywhere neart that path. These vermin will try to put the UAW in your other non-union American plants.

ACORN/SEIU and the other thugs will demand Obama force foreign car companies to unionize.

I want to parody Toby keith’s song:

To the UAW: How Do You Like Him Now??????

Not particularly a fan of Toyota or its cars, but I’d love to see them tell the CA Democrats to go to hell. Seeing as how the U.S. government is now a direct competitor (via its subsidiary General Motors), why exactly should Toyota take advice from these clowns? Who takes advice from a competitor?

Good for Toyota. I hope they stand their ground.

When Obama Car sales begin to set worldwide sales records, he can use the profits to replace this plant.

Meanwhile, Obama has tons of shovel ready jobs just waiting for all those folks.

Are these the same California legislators that passed AB 32 (Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006) which requires that by 2020 the state’s greenhouse gas emissions be reduced to 1990 levels. This auto plant was not operating in 1990 so GM and Toyota’s decision to hit the road makes sense. Thanks Arnold for signing this bill. Now if all of the illegals who entered the state after 1990 would leave we might be making some progress.
