Weekly jobless claims up more than expected (7/23/09)

The number of newly laid-off workers seeking jobless benefits rose last week, though the government said its report again was distorted by the timing of auto plant shutdowns.

Unemployment insurance claims have declined steadily since the spring, but most private economists and the Federal Reserve expect jobs to remain scarce and the unemployment rate to top 10 percent by year-end.

The Labor Department said Thursday that its tally of initial claims for unemployment insurance rose by 30,000 to a seasonally adjusted 554,000. That was above analysts’ estimates of 550,000.

But the number of people on emergency extended state and federal programs continued to rise. Unemployment insurance recipients can receive up to 53 weeks of additional benefits from the emergency programs, on top of the 26 weeks typically provided by the states.

When the extended benefit rolls are included, more than 9.1 million people received jobless benefits for the week of July 4, the latest data available.

The recession, which started in December 2007 and is the longest since World War II, has eliminated a net total of 6.5 million jobs. The unemployment rate in June rose to 9.5 percent, a 26-year high.

More job cuts were announced this week, many by major airlines.

Republican as President - “Unemployment skyrocketing.”
Democrat as President - “Unemployment more than expected.”

Ann Coulter proven right yet again.

Joe Biden we misread the economy.

Zero we lied about Health Care numbers, if you think unemployment is high now, wait until I scam you on health care.

If you think the debt is high now , wait until I use the Al Capone style Politics on health care. ( I can always blame Bush).

“The recession, which started in December 2007 and is the longest since World War II, has eliminated a net total of 6.5 million jobs. The unemployment rate in June rose to 9.5 percent, a 26-year high.”

And Obama’s “economic program”, if that’s what you can call it, is a program of intentional destruction. Sweep those traitors away!

But they’re still better than they could have been.

Another VICTORY for the OBAMA administration!

And just you remember, if it hadn’t been for the stimulus, we’d have a bazillion fewer jobs.

IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!! IT’S WORKING!!!

With state budgets being slashed because of near bankruptcies like what is happening in states like California, Michigan, Illinois and New York just to name a few, more and more people even those with state jobs and union jobs are gonna get laid off or furloughed in order for states such as these to keep afloat.

Reckless spending has taken its toll in these states so I do not have any sympathy for the states at all. None whatsoever.

The anti business, excessive taxation mindset of these states is finally coming home to roost. And the libtards in every single case are the ones responsible just as the libtards are the ones responsible for the subprime mortgage crisis that got our economy into this mess in the first place.

We are well over 15% unemployment if you use the U6-measurements, which is the closest measurement system we have currently that gives the same type of stats from the late 70’s. That is, if we used the same unemployment-measurement system that we used in the 70’s, we are in the high teens.

though the government said its report again was distorted by the timing of auto plant shutdowns.

There is always an excuse with these people. During the Bush administration, every time the unemployment numbers came in lower, they said "Well a lot of people gave up looking for work and are not being counted". Love the lying excuse making media. Is it any wonder someone trusts anything they say. Seems to me any talent journalist would at the least question excuses like this.

Geez, this just has to be wrong.

Remember that massive bailout/rescue bill pushed into law by Pelosi, Frank, Dodd, Reid and $inator 0b0z0 last year to save our economy.

It appears that a large part of the bailout funds went Rat non profits and other rat controlled social engineering plots to keep the rats running these scams employed.

The governors and mayors of high unemployment areas are starting to holler, “Where’s the beef (the bailout funds).”

This was Obama and the Dems biggest mistake. If they would have shoved healthcare, Cap and Trade etc first then they might have slam dunked all of these things they are trying to do now.

They decided to payback their donors up front and it is having a disastrous affect on our economy and their political lies. Thank goodness that arrogance is still alive.

Yeah, but just think of how bad it would be if Obummer hadn’t created those 3-4 million jobs he promised during the campaign, plus those hundreds of thousands of jobs he’s saved so far........................./s

Yeah, that is true. Also, imagine what the inflation number would be right now if we calculated it like we use to. Between the Fed and the Treasury, it is a shell game right now.
