Report Questions Palin Legal Defense Fund [Fact-based reporting from the NYT?]
NYT ^ | July 21, 2009 | Katherine Q. Seelye

Posted on 07/21/2009 6:36:49 PM PDT by Al B.

A preliminary report raises the possibility that Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, who has been dogged by ethics complaints, many of them dismissed as frivolous, may not be allowed to pay her legal bills with money from her legal defense fund.

Ms. Palin has amassed legal bills of more than $500,000 and has said that those debts are part of the reason she is resigning her office. She steps down on Sunday, a year and a half before the end of her term.

The preliminary report, written by Thomas M. Daniel, an investigator for the state personnel board, came in response to an ethics complaint filed shortly after the fund was established a few months ago. The complaint questioned whether it was proper for the governor to have a defense fund in the first place.

The report, written July 14 and first reported Tuesday by The Associated Press, said that the governor had an unfair fund-raising advantage over ordinary citizens because she is a public official, that her fund is trading on her status as a public official to solicit donations and that contributions to the fund could amount to improper gifts under Alaska law.

The report recommended that Ms. Palin refuse to accept payment from the fund. It also suggested she seek reimbursement from the state for the cost of defending herself against ethics complaints that have been dismissed.

Time for Palin to sue everyone who filed a frivilous lawsuit against her, esp. multiple offenders. There is another term used by some courts re frivilous lawsuits (those without merit which are filed to harass someone), but I cannot recall it now.

However, look up Rule 12 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure to see how the fed. govt views frivilous lawsuits.

Between Palin and the ethics complainers, who do you think puts Alaska first?

If she asks the state of AK to pick up the tab, I can see that being tangled up in partisan politics for years - just what the enemies want.

"Gee, Wally, didn't Bill Clinton have a legal defense fund when he was President?"

This is just another example of how bad the Commies are still suffering from PDS. The leftwing kooks hate her guts for challenging their little “messiah” in November and scaring the crap out of every Commie on the planet that they aren’t going to stop stalking and harassing her until she’s dead.

Let's see if we can modify this just a wee bit into something that would elicit nothing more than a yawn from the mainstream media:

The report... said that President Clinton had an unfair fund-raising advantage over ordinary citizens because he is a public official, that his defense fund is trading on his status as a public official and philanderer-in-chief to solicit donations and that contributions to the fund could amount to improper gifts.

Yeah, that would do it.

She won't do it. She already turned down an offer by the legislature to fund her defense in the tasergate stuff, but only tasergate. She said it was unfair to charge the taxpayers for frivolous ethics complaints. That decision cost her $95,000.

I’m sure you’re right, it’s not her style. These schmucks are just terrified of the day when they lose influence over her fate, and that day is coming soon!

And in another odd twist, Tom Daniels is going to be going to jail because releasing the report is in itself a crime....

The New York Slimes is actually more credible then then AP Obama, I am STUNNED!! This entire story is such a yawn fest, so basically Sarah hasn’t even accepted the money yet. It’s still sitting wherever the heck it’s sitting and Sarah hasn’t collected a dime. This is what she should do, send everyone their money back, and then we can all send that money directly to SarahPac. Heck I will even double the amount I sent her, I sent her 25 bucks, I will make it a 50 dollar donation to her Pac. Good Lord, this is the best the libs could come up with, this is beyond ridiculous, it’s so ridiculous even the NY Slimes can’t make a story out of it LOL

Kim Chatman released it. Whether him disclosing it to Chatman, the original filer, is actionable, I don’t have a clue.

I actually wish she could go after the AP reporter who started the whole thing, Rachel D’Oro. Turns out she is friends on facebook with the Palin stalking freak Celtic Diva.

She tossed out a misleading story this afternoon on purpose.

I ashamed of what I want to do to these people right now.
