>Like if you have a CCW, your first thought is, “How many people can I mow down today?”

I have had the first thought as I enter a room be “What is the best way to kill everyone here?”... but that’s probably normal for someone who’s been through basic-training or boot-camp.

where the police have saved thousands from gun deaths by vigorously enforcing weapons laws.

Any proof?

Why is it that gunphobics seem to have such a hard time distinguishing between guns in the hands of criminals and guns in the hands of responsible, law abiding people?

Because in their minds, there is no difference.

The pistols-for-everyone-everywhere crowd in Washington has engineered diabolical legislation that would blow gaping holes in New York's gun control laws.

Sounds good so far.

Republican Sen. John Thune wants Americans across the country to be able to carry concealed weapons, including Americans who live in, work in or visit this city and state.

Yea, but it still wants it done on the basis of State Permission, rather than via the natural right protected by the Constitution for the United States. But little steps in the right direction are better than going backwards.

the world's safest big city, population 8.4 million, where the police have saved thousands from gun deaths by vigorously enforcing weapons laws.

Vigorously enforcing laws against murder, assault, robbery, vandalism and other "petty" crimes, and keeping criminals off the streets, works better. I suspect that all that vigorous enforcement of weapons laws, has the effect of taking lots of bad guys off the street, which counteracts, to some degree the loss of good guys who can defend themselves and others.

I am always amazed how those petty thug politicians literally flee from one state and end up in local government in another state/city.
