A respected jeweller has been given a police warning for 'racially offensive' conduct after banning gipsies from his shop in the wake of a series of raids by an Eastern European crime gang. Michael Plant, 62...reacted to the string of thefts with a sign in his shop window reading: 'Sorry, we do not serve Eastern Europeans or Gypsies.'
Shortly after posting the sign, he was served with a warning from a senior police officer demanding he take it down, or face prosecution for possible race hate charges.
Despite inquiries police have been unable to trace the thieves.... ...
'I've got a foreign wife ...But some people coming in to this country illegally seem to have more rights than me.'... 'I bet if these people are caught for stealing, they probably wouldn't even go into a magistrates court. They would just get a fixed penalty fine and that would be paid by one of the human rights organisations. The tax-payer pays for it all.... the whole country is belly-up.' ...

More on the UK problem of "travellers"...
War veterans' clubhouse faces demolition - to make way for travellers' caravans
A group of war veterans face being evicted from their clubhouse after travellers demanded it be torn down to make way for more caravans. The 40-strong group of travellers moved on to a plot of land next to the veterans' clubhouse last week following a council decision to relocate them. Members of the Royal Naval ex-servicemen's club are now in talks with Gravesham Council who will decide if the veterans are to be relocated permanently. The veterans, who have been on the site for more than 30 years, were shocked when the travellers set up home on a disused patch of grass 20 yards away....
ROBIN PAGE: This land theft by 'travellers' sickens me
Will someone please explain why some sections of the gipsy community are called 'travellers'? As far as I can see - and I live on a farm in the heart of the country - the last thing they seem to do is 'travel'. From my experience, they appear far more interested in 'settling' than 'travelling'. For make no mistake, the illegal traveller 'settlements', which can now be found across Britain, have become a national scandal....
Exploiting phoney human rights laws, lame legislation - and the Government's commitment to so-called diversity - a small minority are occupying land wherever they please. Instead of the Government tackling the problem, the ordinary, rural taxpayers, who are so often impacted by these settlements, are left to pick up the pieces....
Ping
“Travellers” ping...
Well if the taxpaying Britons still had guns they would at least have the government scared enough of them that the government would do something, but looking to the US that still doesn’t help, at least they would be able to shoot trespassers, well i guess that doesn;t work anymore int he US either....
Here in the US there is a group called the Irish Travellers, who seem to live and work in a manner similar to Gypsies, although I don't think they are ethnically related. Apparently they are in the UK as well.
They tend to be concentrated in certain towns in the southern states. During the warmer months the men do travel all over the country earning money from various work-for-hire scams.
I have heard that Gypsies used to be in motion with their caravans a lot more before the modern era, so that might also be an origin for the "traveller" name.
In big cities on the east coast, jewelry shops are like post offices -- everything is locked up or behind 2"-thick lucite walls. People get buzzed in the door. This jeweler should post a sign saying, "Only 2 patrons in the shop at a time."
Cultural Assimilation would go a long way toward solving the problem.
But cultural assimilation is a bad word these days.
Very interesting article; thanks. Here are a couple of other FR threads on the subject:

Yes; you can teach children about self-regard, Islam, homosexuality, condoms and "rights", but you cannot teach about Western civilization, nor the influence of Christianity or Judaism.
It’s not me... honest... :-)
Install a remotely controlled lock on your doors, sir. OPEN them only to those you are comfortable with. Create a vestibule where you can trap anyone inside while you are waiting for the police to show up.
Travellers are Irish, or originally of Irish extraction. They are not related by blood or language to the Romani peoples, commonly called Gipsys or Gypsys.
What we have here are the Romani flavor of gypsies. BTW, the Irish Travellers still maintain their (mostly warm season) communities in nearby White Settlement, Texas. I've actually scoped out their hood before after curiosity got the best of me!
I know you are aware of the history but there are others who are not. It's interesting to say the least. Fascinating to me.
Another good link on the subject which illuminates the differences betwixt the Irish Travellers and the Romani.: Here.
Not in Texas. You are legally entitled to shoot somebody attempting to escape with stolen property. They do not have to be armed.
Sec. 9.41. PROTECTION OF ONE'S OWN PROPERTY.
(a) A person in lawful possession of land or tangible, movable property is justified in using force against another when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to prevent or terminate the other's trespass on the land or unlawful interference with the property.
(b) A person unlawfully dispossessed of land or tangible, movable property by another is justified in using force against the other when and to the degree the actor reasonably believes the force is immediately necessary to reenter the land or recover the property if the actor uses the force immediately or in fresh pursuit after the dispossession and:
(1) the actor reasonably believes the other had no claim of right when he dispossessed the actor; or
(2) the other accomplished the dispossession by using force, threat, or fraud against the actor.
Sec. 9.42. DEADLY FORCE TO PROTECT PROPERTY.
A person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or tangible, movable property:
(1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.41; and
(2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary:
(A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or
(B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property; and
(3) he reasonably believes that:
(A) the land or property cannot be protected or recovered by any other means; or
(B) the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury.
Stealin' in Texas is unhealthy.
Why?
What will they do with it?
Freepers! You’re slippin’! It took nearly 20 posts for this to show up?

LOL!!
Excellent idea. That's what they do on the Jeweller's districts in New York and Philadelphia.
Sounds like this guy had a small-town shop for many years, and now, the world has burst in. He needs video cameras and an alarm system that will ring directly in the police station.
