A Taliban commander in southeastern Afghanistan today said that a captured U.S. soldier was being held unharmed by insurgents, but warned he would be killed if efforts were made to find him.
The soldier has been missing in Paktika province since late June, just before thousands of U.S. Marines began a major new offensive. The U.S. military has said he was presumed captured.
Taliban commander Mawlavi Sangin said the group's leadership would decide the soldier's fate, but accused U.S. soldiers of harassing and arresting Afghans in Paktika and neighbouring Ghazni province.
'They have put pressure on the people in these two provinces and if that does not stop we will kill him,' said Sangin, the Taliban commander for Paktika province. He said the soldier was captured in an area bordering Pakistan.
Earlier this month it was reported that the American soldier was captured and sold to a militant clan. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the capture of the soldier, with a commander saying he had been drunk when he was captured.

Our media seems to be ignoring this soldier’s plight. Too interested in Michael Jackson. Or maybe they don’t want to illustrate how useless Obama is in handling a crisis.
By the way, This is the first I have heard of a US soldier having been captured in Afghanistan. Odd that I learn of it from a British paper.

sad to say but i guess with this type of enemy it would be a real wonder if this soldier survives his “capture”.
It breaks my heart to think about what this young man is going through.
I, too, feel that he will not be returned.
And that video would not be shown on air because MJ’s toxicoloogy report will be released and that is much more important. Not.
I am saying a prayer for he and his family. And may God have mercy on the souls of his captors. The Marines will not.
Since they have produced no evidence to prove he is alive, he has probably been dead since a few hours after he went missing.
I thought he was a Marine....not a soldier. I know its a “generic” statement. But I would never call a Marine a soldier to their face.
If they kill him, I would rain down ‘round the clock arc-light strikes on those bastards, but I’m sure 0bammy and his butt-boy Gates will just d=say that they are misunderstood.

With this type enemy, every time a soldier loads the first round into a magazine, he does so understanding that bullet may be for him.
i was just sitting here thinking the same thing...such a shame that the u.s. media opts not to report this...would probably be a blemish on obamas record since it happened on his watch....
I will keep this soldier in my prayers. I will also pray for our special forces, who I hope are keeping Taliban commander Mawlavi Sangin in mind and in their sights.
Better keep checking on FR to see what happens, cuz the mainstream media sure won’t tell us while the Messiah, who bowed down in submission to jihadis, is in office.

If Maj. Cook's suit does get a hearing this might be all our enemies will be waiting for. Not that the Taliban ever followed the Geneva Convention but it's just something else Hussein is setting out to destroy.
In Iraq I was told informally to save the last round for yourself.
Apparently, the soldier may have wandered off post alone.
The least he could do is morse code with his eyes a simple message..but they don't teach that to the soldiers nowadays. While Active Marines back in the late 80s, we knew morse code.
You are damn straight on target with that! I did my 4 years Marine Corps now am Army Reserves, I cringe when called a soldier, though there is nothing wrong in being a soldier, I like it, but not the same hardcorps.
