US criticizes Medvedev visit to South Ossetia

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to the Georgian breakaway region of South Ossetia has not contributed to promoting stability following last year’s brief war, the US State Department said Tuesday.

Medvedev made the controversial trip to South Ossetia Monday and offered financial and military support in defiance of the West and the Georgian government.

“Certainly I don’t think that it was any kind of step forward in terms of establishing stability in the region,” US State Department spokesman Ian Kelly told reporters.

The situation in Georgia over the separatist regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia has been a source of tension in US-Russian relations. The US strongly objected to Moscow’s invasion of Georgia last year in response to a Georgian military offensive in South Ossetia to quell separatist attacks.

Moscow accused Georgia of provoking the conflict and supports independence for Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

While in Russia last week with Medvedev, US President Barack Obama acknowledged that the two countries continue to disagree over the conflict, and vowed support for the former Soviet republic’s aspiration to join NATO. Russia has criticized NATO expansion into what the Kremlin considers its historical sphere of influence.

Since the war that began in August, Russia has stationed thousands of additional troops in South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Obama supports the Muslim secessionist state Kosovo right in the middle of Christian European Serbia. Why doesn’t South Ossetia have the right to an independent nation? Their people voted for it and they are ethnically Russian, not Georgian. More hypocrisy from Barry.

Ossetians are Alans, not Slavic Russians. And don’t fall for the BS that this is about minority rights when Russia occupies over a dozen former nation-states or ethnic territories just in the Caucus-Kuban region.

11 people, doesn’t sound like a mass grave or mass killings. We have no proof of how they died or why. So stop with the unsubstantiated claims of genocide by “evil” Christian Europeans. I stand with the side that fought KLA and Al Qaeda terrorists.

Those republics didn’t vote to secede, they want to stay in Russia. South Ossetia never wanted to be part of Georgia, and asserted their right to secession through a democratic vote.

A vote, financed and counted by Russia, how nice. If North and South Ossetia get to join and decide if they wish to be independent it would be legitimate. You are shilling for a KGB powerplay. Have you no decency?

What is your proof of this, or that they rigged the election. South Ossetians support independence from Georgia. Where is this Pro Georgia movement you speak of? And how is it our business what they do, secession is a natural right.

Other than it being a non-standard vote with violence against the opposition and no neutral count?

South Ossetians support independence from Georgia.
No, the vote was to join Russia. Where is the free vote on the status of Northern Ossetia? There is none, because this is the KGB.

Where is this Pro Georgia movement you speak of?
They were ethnically cleansed. Compare that to Adjara, where the Muslims got partial sovereignty within Georgia without war or ethnic cleansing.

And how is it our business what they do, secession is a natural right.
Are you being obtuse or do you not know the facts on the ground? They joined Russia and Russia invaded Georgia. This isn't about the Ossetes or Abkhazians it is about KGB control of Georgia. It is about KGB control of Caspian oil routes, so Russia can threaten Europe. It is about protecting Iran and Russia's deals with Iran.

Georgia broke the cease fire and invaded South Ossetia, those are the facts on the ground. Sashkasveli is a warhawk with an overinflated ego. Russia protected Ossetians, who are native to Russia and allies of Russia. You have yet to prove that their democratic independence referendum to form a free republic was rigged, or that there was a massacre of pro Georgian Ossetians. South Ossetia has no oil pipelines, and Russia didn’t conquer Georgia, they just whooped them and taught them a lesson.

Genocidal Nazi Russia has ethnically cleansed hundreds of thousands of Georgians from Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Russian peacekeepers occupying Georgian land are muslim Chechens! Jihadist Chechen “ex-rebels” rape and massacre Orthodox Christian Georgians for KGB inc. These are Russia’s Heroes!

Signs of looting, ethnic cleansing in conflict - "Now Ossetians are running around and killing poor Georgians in their enclaves," said Maj. Gen. Vyacheslav Nikolaevich Borisov, the commander in charge of the Russian-occupied city of Gori. "We have to be honest," a Russian lieutenant said. "The Ossetians are marauding." Dozens of houses were on fire Tuesday in the northern suburbs of Tskhinvali, the capital of South Ossetia. Reporters saw unidentified armed men carting away electronics and other household items. The Russians were not stopping them. "We're not a police force; we're a military force," a Russian lieutenant colonel said. "It's not our job to do police work."

So the New York Times says their might have been killings, I don’t believe a word they write. They are Liberal and have always had an Anti Russian anti Serbian, and Anti Ossetian agenda. So, the worse that has happened is that Ethnic Georgians aren’t being allowed back in, doesn’t bother me. Same how the Serbs deported Kosovars.

The Serbs deported themselves from Kosovo back to Serbia. They are still waiting for Czar Putin to come and save them on a white horse! Instead Putin pulled all Russian troops out of Kosovo and invaded Orthodox Christian Georgia, unleashing his savage inhuman chechen red army hordes to slaughter thousands of innocent Christian women and children! God damn Russia!!!

Czar Putin, I like the sound of that, it is a shame the Czars didn’t stays in power in Russia, hopefully Putin can restore something like that which the communists destroyed. Anyway, they deported them to Albania, where they should be, unfortunately they came back when Serbia lost the war. And your claims of genocide of hundreds of thousands of Georgians are unsubstantiated. Georgia started the war, broke the cease fire and Russia protected the territorial sovereignty of South Ossetia.

and if you cared to read the article you posted, the Chechen commander who fought for Russia is being charged with treason by the illegitimate Chechen government. At least he was a Patriot for Russia.

The Ossetian broke the cease-fire first by shelling Georgian villages and Russia was already invading Georgia before the Georgian attack on the Ossetian capital. It is a fact that Russia has exterminated or ethnically cleansed hundreds of thousands of ethnic Georgians from Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev, the butcher of Beslan, served on Russia's side in Abkhazia in the early nineties. Basayev and his "Abkhaz battalion" murdered thousands of Christian Georgians and played football with their severed heads. Abkhazia is a haven for Chechen terrorists.

If Christian Georgians cannot go back to their homes, then why should Christian Serbs be allowed to come back to Kosovo?
