A Dose of Realism in Honduras (Rabbit Hole Alert)
Washington Post ^ | July 12, 2009 | Edward Schumacher-Matos

Posted on 07/11/2009 7:28:02 AM PDT by don-o

President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are on the verge of achieving their own coup in Honduras and advancing American interests with a deftness not seen from Washington in many years.

The president's reference to Honduras during his trip to Moscow reflects how the small Central American country is but a pawn as the administration pushes the reset button globally and in the hemisphere.

Justice may not be totally served in Honduras, but the country is likely to end up better off anyway.

Obama spin machine in full gear.
They should be ashamed but then liberals have no shame.

But, the GreatZero has proclaimed that all countries are our equals...guess that doesn’t apply to countries that don’t embrace socialism and despotism. Btw, I hope your disclaimer saves you some discomforting sunburn.

Thanks for the disclaimer. The writer has it ass-backwards. Obama and Clinton came out in favor of re-instating Zelaya and calling the event a “military coup”. Dems in congress still are calling it a coup. The writer then correctly identifies the process by which Zelaya was kicked out. Prior post somewhere on Freep from Miguel Estrada, laying out the constitutional basis for the expulsion. They should have put him under arrest in Honduras, not expelled him to create outside international meddling. So the writer is nuts to think Zelaya coming back, with finance from outside (chavez) would simply “serve out his term” That has been floated by Honduras— to calm down the rioters. But reality is that Zelaya will be arrested— if he isn’t shot in a melee of some sort. Honduran constitution was developed to prevent repeat military juntas. Writer gets it wrong, generally, and tries to paint Obama and Clinton as being clever. It is old State hands that put Arias up to mediator role.

Wow. That was a very shrewd move to place that disclaimer! Even posting just a steaming pantload like that for informative purposes is nearly certain to cause painful collateral damage from mis-thrown tomatoes!

From more deeply into the pile, this howler

Chávez is a nuisance, but Washington has no enemies in Latin America.

The "Rabbit Hole Alert" is my new addition for stories that are jaw-droppingly divorced from reality.

"...on the verge of achieving their own coup in Honduras and advancing American interests with a deftness not seen from Washington in many years..."

This was the line that was the equivalent of opening the diaper.

I will give liberals at least some modicum of thanks. They have saved me a lot of time by announcing themselves in the first sentence.

Yah. I got blasted pretty good last night for posting a piece that quoted a UN tool. It seems that the disclaimer may be necessary to help some of us separate the messenger from the message.

I read that article this morning, don-o. Talk about major spin! They sure did try hard to make Clinton and Obama look smart in their handling of the Honduras matter. At least some of the facts of Zelaya’s attempt to subvert Honduras’ constitution are filtering through in spite of their spin on Obama’s handling of the situation.

More fundamentally, Obama and Clinton, perhaps because neither is particularly experienced in Latin America,

I'm sure that not true, there must be Latin communities in Chicago that Obama visited while he was a "community organizer"

Surely he has worked with M13 gang members as well in Chicago

Hillary is the smartest women in the world so I'm sure a quick cliff note study over a double latte' will catch her up to deal with the situation.

Rest assured we are in good hands with this administration

Yup, what a steaming pile. The reality is zero jumped the shark backing a marxist dictator (Chavez) and a marxist dictator wannabe (Zeleya). The thing he didn’t count on was the Honduran people and govt being willing to fight for their Constitution. Wwhen Chavez started talking invasion, even zero could see what a train wreck that would be. Not just for Honduras and her people - about whom zero truly couldn’t care less - but for zero politically for having backed an invader (Chavez). That’s when and why zero stopped using the “coup” term and started pushing for the current mediation solution.

Now if/when things blow up - and they very well could because Chavez won’t give up on putting his sock puppet fellow marxist into power and the Honduran people won’t back off defending their Constitution - zero can blame the mediators.

Zero still might get his marxist bretheren into power, but he’ll be able to spin that the blood isn’t on his hands. Rather, zero will pin the blame of the Honduran military for their “intransience” (defending their Constitution) and the failure of the mediators. The MSM will go along, too, meaning at least part of the zero whoreshipping American public will. This article is just part of the process of giving zero this cover.

This is an abuse of ink and paper. Hussein is praised, portrayed as WISE for siding with a thug, dictator wanna-be.

I know they are on par with the NYT LAT Boston Globe and so on, but, only very rarely do I see something that makes me think “...hey, there is hope for them!”

And then I see this article, and I realize that the hopeful signs I saw before had nothing to do with journalistic integrity, and had everything to do with the doomed fibrillating heart of a man about to pass on suddenly regaining a somewhat normal rhythm for a few seconds.

Good grief. Next thing they’ll be applauding him for providing a rejuvenation drug to Fidel Castro and bringing back Che Guevara from the grave.

“Justice may not be totally served in Honduras, but the country is likely to end up better off anyway.”

Yes, it is always better that a Marxist thug POTUS, reinstate a millionaire Marxist dictator in Honduras. No democratically elected people for Honduras.......Marxists of the world unite!!
