George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and . . . Barack Obama?
Patriotic tourists visiting the Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota on Wednesday found a fifth face displayed -- and not as a compliment -- next to the giant stone carvings of four legendary presidents.
A group of environmental activists connected with Greenpeace unfurled an enormous banner showing President Obama's face and calling for an end to global warming.
The 65-foot by 35-foot banner — which read "America Honors Leaders, Not Politicians: Stop Global Warming" — was hung to the immediate right of Lincoln at about 10 a.m. local time, said Patty Rooney, a spokeswoman for the National Park Service's Midwest Regional Office.
She said an undetermined number of people were taken into custody following the incident.
Daniel Kessler, a spokesman for Greenpeace, said 11 people were detained, but it was not clear how many of them were Greenpeace employees.

Aren’t the faces of Rushmore fragile? I seem to remember hearing about a fault line that runs through the monument, which is why no other faces were added.

What crime exactly? Trespassing? What is so "wrong" with what they did? They hung a banner where it could be seen. There is nothing offensive on the banner. Just an opinion. The did no damage to the edifice - so what is the problem?
The face was blurred out in the photo on Fox, does anyone have the complete photo? Tried the website and it could not find the page.
That’s the only way Zero’s likeness will ever get on Mt. Rushmore - through liberal vandalism.
Then again his Administration is liberal vandalism on the whole country.

It’s a national monument. It would be like going to the Lincoln Memorial and Hanging a Sign advertising whatever issue dejure.....What’s “Wrong” is that to say it’s Free Speach will Encourage nuts like GreenPeace.
Hippies will be climbing Mt.Rushmore to hang signs every other week. If I take my nephews to see national monuments then I don’t want dirt hippies climbing all over them! Plus if one of those “People” fell they would sue the gov’t. I don’t want to have to pay a million dollars for some dumb jerks broken leg because they needed to make a statement.

I mean should not the most brilliant, erudite, articulate, forward-thinking, sea-calming, healer of all illness and world peace-maker be honored along with the other great American Presidents?

I believe that area above Lincoln is off-limits to the public and has security and surveillance. They had inside assistance and/or approval to do this in order to get up there.
They may have even had inside permission from the obongo dance team to do it....paid with porkulus funds. NOTHING surprises anymore when dealing with insane libs.
