Euro politics in general can seem sort of inscrutable to us Americans. Their liberals are as close to an equivalent to our conservatives as you'll get, but they're more like the "good government" establishment types. McCain, but a little more to the left.
Then, you have out and out socialists and communists, who make no bones about it. This is their left.
Their right is often La Rouchean at best, and downright fascist at worst, always pegged on 11. No reasonable rightists in favor of limited government and individual rights. That seems to be a uniquely American, and to a lesser extent, Canadian and Australian, phenomenon.
