She couldn’t stand the heat and she got out of the kitchen.

Well I've read the first 50 posts thus far and there are two sides to this, but I would caution everyone to consider the literal HELL she was thrown into, the jackals that invaded her town in Alaska, the betrayal of McCainites within the campaign, and the on-going rancor from her own party.

What if she stepped down, resigned, to do something far more important? She owes neither party squat but disgust! She views her role of governorship of Alaska as “lame duck.” All that she accomplished to lead to the last few years as a lame duck. Maybe her goals are bigger than the quacks in Alaska and her staying in position is worth less to her, them, and all America than whatever her new goals are. What if she has decided to create a third party? With the treatment the Republicans are giving her...why bother with them, the party literally left her hang out to dry?

Scenario two. Things don't involve politics anymore. She has her son to deal with. Maybe she herself is ill and is simply not disclosing it.

You see she didn't give us much to go on and I for one am pretty sure she wouldn't come to such a drastic conclusion if there were trivial reasons. Instead of all this dumping on the lady we should be praying for her.

Sarah mentioned something posted on her refrigerator: “’Don’t explain; your friends don’t need it, and your enemies won’t believe you anyway.’” I guess I’m one of her “friends” because I don’t need an explanation.

If you truly listened and understood what she said in her resignation speech, you would know it is NOT a “dereliction of duty”. She could have stayed on as a lame duck and would have been stalked and hounded about anything and everything she did during that time. The political opposition (including some in her own party) basically wanted her DEAD.

Disagree. She can now concentrate on the things she needs to make an effective run, and can also spend more time campaigning for conservatives in other constituencies.

Close friend of Palin’s: She’ll seriously consider running for president

Grab your little sling shot, and choose your stones carefully, Sarah. Goliath awaits, and skepticism abounds about your abilities because you do not wear the armor of the kingmakers. In your case, you even lack the blessing of the “kings”.

I think her strategy is outstanding. Making this announcement on the 3rd of July, when all government offices are closed, Obama is on vacation at Camp David, and most media services, which lack in any credibility in fair and balanced reporting are floundering, she will capture all attention for 3 full days with no opposition. While the State Controlled Media will be tripping over each other on speculations, she and her family will have the time of their lives watching the Media Meltdown.

Sarah is the first politician that I've seen in a long time with any ethics. She's putting her state above her own political ambitions right now. She's not quitting because of the heat but because all the frivolous lawsuits are costing the citizens of Alaska a great deal of money and state time. This IS a very Conservative thing to do.

Those of you who have never put someone or something ahead of your own selfish needs have no understanding of this.

Hillyer, You're a hack and you have no imagination.

Now that I've overcome my initial shock on Palin's resignation, I think I'm going to like this...!

F U you simple-minded tool.

Sarah Palin is an actual superior human being, not a genetically designed Political Unit.

I'd back her under any circumstances, simply due to her evidenced characteristics of tenacity, honesty, and imperiousness to irrelevant commentary.

“Manifestly unqualified”? On what basis? Quin Hillyer sounds like J. Coddington Voorhees III. An effete, elitist snob.

So she should continue taking the outragous ethics accusations that have cost over $600,000 on the last six months? So, that every time she steps outside of the state, they can accuse her of disregarding fer duties to the state of Alaska?

She has, in one move, removed two avenues of attack from the statists. She may haved opened one other lane of attack, but it is ineffective at best. Now, if she wants she can start her campaign. After the Kenyan started his 30 months out.

She did what's best for the people that elected her....the MSM’s pre-occupation with her destruction was interfering with the operation of the Governor’s office. Failure to see or acknowledge that, by extension, makes you part of Alaska's problem.

"I can't help myself: Sarah Palin's resignation is an appalling dereliction of duty and a highly cynical move to set herself up for a presidental run for which she is manifestly unqualified.

So Obama is qualified to be president only two-something years as a mediocre, do-nothing Senator? But Sarah Palin as Governor of Alaska is "manifestly unqualified." And the State run Drive-By-Media is upset that people are turning away from them.
