A powerful new film, The Stoning of Soraya M., is calling public attention to the Islamic practice of stoning adulterers in a way that only Hollywood can; while at least eight women await death by stoning in Iran today, none of their cases have drawn any significant protests from human rights organizations, and Western governments have remained largely indifferent. With a genocidally inclined nuclear Iran looming on the international stage, the victimization of women by Islamic laws prescribing stoning for adultery and other sexual crimes may seem to be the least of our worries. The Stoning of Soraya M., however, graphically depicts the terrible human cost of the outside worlds indifference to the stoning that are still practiced in Iran and elsewhere in the Islamic world. Yet despite this superb films immense power to challenge this barbaric human rights abuse, reviewers and even people connected with the film are rushing to divert attention away from or downplay the root causes of the crime the film indelibly depicts -- and by doing so, are condemning more women to suffer Sorayas fate.

As long as it can be blamed on Bush...yes.
How can the feminists not say a word...?
The question demonstrates the author is given to flights of fancy....
I urge you - and all Freepers - to see this movie as soon as possible. It is an important film made by good, conservative Americans.
See the film. Please.
BUT, I hope many folks see how life STINKS for women in many, many places around the world.
American women are a spoiled bunch....

Now,we know why the devil never married!
I might. It has nothing ‘new’ to me, having been through the ME many years ago.
How indeed. Another mind-boggler. It's painful to think about. These same feminists will mock Americans who show any sense of modesty or morals, yet proudly tout respect for the 'cultural' traditions of these women (and I don't mean to their own sense of modesty). Get them to the reproductive health centers, who cares about a burqa...
How could they drive in a burka anyway?
Yes, it is both distressing and disturbing. Go buy a ticket and don’t see the movie. Consider it a donation to a worthy cause!
They're too busy hating white, christian, heterosexual men....we treat our women way worse, didn't you hear?
I would suspect that at some point these guys would figure out that they’ll be the first victims under Sharia Law...
