Ganley to seek U.S. Senate seat ( a real REPUBLICAN to replace crybaby-RINO Voinovitch. )

Car dealer Tom Ganley has announced he’s running for the Republican Party’s nomination for U.S. Senate.

Ganley of Brecksville seeks the seat that will be vacated at the end of 2010 by the retiring U.S. Sen. George V. Voinovich, R-Ohio.

Starting with a Rambler dealership in Euclid in 1968, Ganley has built the Ganley Auto Group, with 32 dealerships. He is chief executive officer.

"I am a businessman, not someone who ever thought about being a professional politician," Ganley said at a news conference in his hometown and subsequent news release to announce his candidacy.

"But maybe that’s what’s needed in Washington now- someone who understands financial responsibility and what it takes for a business and a country to be competitive. Someone who has built a business from scratch. Someone who knows how to create jobs. Someone who has met a payroll and knows his employees are dependent on him."

Ganley recently lost Chrysler dealerships which were profitable because of the Chrysler bankruptcy and restructuring required to get a federal bailout. He said the Chrysler and GM problems resulted from poor planning and bad management decisions, but said the industry will learn from those mistakes.

He would likely face former U.S. Rep. Rob Portman of Cincinnati, who has announced his intent to run for the GOP nomination in 2010.

Democrats to announce for the seat are Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher and Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.

Really torn on this one.

I heard him on Bob Franz show months ago discussing this.

Yet...ugh...I’m just not so sure he is the best we can do.

Portman is a good conservative. As a congressman, he was fine. But I’m afraid on a larger scale, how won’t be exciting enough. Don’t know about Ganley. Obviously, I’ll support either.

Ganley isn’t exactly a ball of fire, either. I’ll be sticking with Portman.

Ganley has a good name in NE Ohio, If he can peal some of the rancid Rat vote in the Cleveland Metro. I think either he or Portman would be better than Voinovich, and I know they are better than the knuckle head Fisher or Frau Brunner.

I give Tom a lot of credit for deciding he’s running. However, to me Portman should be the choice.

I think having a Ganley at the forefront of turning Cuyahoga County away from all the problems the Machine has created is of much more importance.

Time to get rid of all the crap that have buried this area. Time to get true conservatives into mayor’s offices and in key positions of power locally. That’s what Ganley should do....

Unfortunately I have little Hope for a Republican in the Mayors office. Quite honestly as a resident of Cleveland. Jackson isn't doing poorly, he is a damn sight better than the last two mayors. The services in the City have gotten better and he has organized many of the city services in a better and more streamlined way. We have certainly done worse, and nobody is going to beat him in the election anyway.

As for the county. I have little hope that a republican can get elected county wide all that often. The idiots that live in this area will vote for anybody with the D after their name. The best hope for the region is the elimination of some of the 52 municipalities in the county and the elimination of CMHA.

Sorry, I’m 100% behind Rob Portman to replace Georgie ‘Cry me a River’ Voinovich.

He’s the ‘real deal’ for anyone that considers themselves a ‘conservative’.

A car salesman for Senate?

He'd probably be the most honest guy there.

YES, this creates a bit of a dilemma!

I sort of think Ganley should stay NE-Ohio based to start (does anyone know him outside of Cleveland area?)...what district does he live in? Maybe he should run for U.S. House Rep.? Because I think Portman is quite well known across Ohio already, he seems pretty reliable on the issues, and he has an excellent resume (not that that means much in Minnesota - aargh!!!)

OTOH, Ganley might be just what we need...a p.-o.'d conservative car salesman (tranlate "highly successful business man" until Obama entered stage left with his economic "fix") from the scandal-ridden Democrat strong-hold of Cleveland probably would be the most honest guy in the "august body"...LOL! Great line!

Any real info on how conservative he is?That Portman`s web site cites his former alliance with the Nature Conservancy, its a radical eco-wacko group that supports Tax and Trade.I know I`ll not vote for any CINOs ever again!
