Mayor Michael Bloomberg says New York City's schools can't close for Muslim holidays.

The City Council is considering a non-binding resolution on Tuesday asking the Education Department to observe Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

The city has the nation's largest school system. A 2008 study by Columbia University's Teachers College estimates at least 10 percent of its 1.1 million students are Muslim.

Maybe it’s just me.

I find that number deeply suspicious.

“The mayor says the city is so diverse that schools can’t observe every holiday.”

GOOD!

Did we celebrate Japanese holidays this shortly after Pearl Harbor? Oh, wait, we still don’t.

Gov’t employees should be required to work on Christmas and Good Friday, to be consistent.

And perhaps even Thanksgiving, since the (white) pilgrims were giving thanks to GOD for bringing them to a land where they were going to eventually slaughter the indigenous people.

Good one!

He’s Jewish ... maybe he’s getting suspicious of Muslims?

He’s not totally stupid ... cheering on his enemies is unwise. I LIKE using “diversity” as the excuse to smack these little cretins DOWN.

Wouldn’t have surprised me if “can’t” was replaced with “must”

Yes. I get frustrated with his dumb ideas, but this is a good one for sure, and he'll get allot of flack no doubt. Even though he's really a democrat, at least he got this right.

“Gov’t employees should be required to work on Christmas and Good Friday, to be consistent.”

It's hard to imagine but there are some good Christians working in our government. I'd like to see NON Christians show their atheist or nonChristian “pride” and WORK those holidays - starting with godless Obama and his brood.

“And perhaps even Thanksgiving, since the (white) pilgrims were giving thanks to GOD for bringing them to a land where they were going to eventually slaughter the indigenous people.”

Absolutely!

It's the day of REVERSE DESCRIMINATION! They should be consistent and WORK to show their disgust at God created WHITE PEOPLE. They sure aren't “thanking God” for anything. Why not be OPEN and CONSISTENT about it?

P.S. Liberals and the godless are c=notoriously LAZY and always willing to have someone PAY FOR THEM.

The kids probably get ten or so unexcused absences a year. They can take one here. I am sure the teachers will be somewhat flexible for those truly honoring a religious holiday.

It was the Jewish Vote and his inability to reconcile a menorah in Muslim prayer room.

Strangely enough, the Amish and Russian Orthodox kids get the flu on or about Jan. 6, when they observe Christmas.

Wonder why ... it’s usually a school day ;-)
