He was white as a Caucasian, at least the parts that showed.

The whitening came as the result of hours of very painful immersion in very strong chemical solutions that remove the pigmentation. He took drugs to eliminate the pain. He was addicted.

Here is the url for an African company that makes such creme where the active ingredients are regulated. In America the max is 2%. If the actual ingredient is purchased alone, much higher percentages can be cooked up.

IMHPO, the guy always looked to me as if he might have suffered from Vitiligo, which is a skin condition that affects many African-Americans, most of whom are of mixed racial ancestry.

This genetic condition causes large areas of the skin to lose their African pigmentation, and is quite serious because there are various other life-limiting conditions to which it is linked, particularly connective tissue disorders. Many companies have, over the years attempted to find drugs and chemicals that would help make the skin one uniform color. Most have proven at least very harsh, and some downright dangerous.

I think Michael Jackson started off with a serious condition, and was made far worse by "celebrity" doctoring.
