That just shoots to hell the polution arguement.

It's never good to jump to conclusions.

And the punch line to the old joke "Frog with no legs - hard of hearing!"

Unbelievable, the first thing that “they” think is that every weird unnatural phenomena is a man made problem... If we can't see it, it's man made.

>>The deformed frogs are actually victims of the predatory habits of dragonfly nymphs, which eat the legs of tadpoles.

But, the dragonfly nymphs are eating tadpole legs because of global warming, right? Everything is man’s fault, dammit!!! Get with the program people. (For the sarcasm-impaired, that was sarcasm)

We have had a big jump in the frog population here in the swamp. In fact, we have a huge jump in the populations of everything from birds to snakes to insects and amphibians.

We are also seeing barred owls for the first time in awhile since we have cleared a lot of the understory, along with bald eagles and hawks. Big populations of quail and pheasants, too. The honey bees are doing well and we have many other varieties of bees that aren’t seen around the urban or suburban areas. Lots of nectar bearing flowers here and we plant lots more including lavenders so they have enough pollen.

We also have wild turkeys that have been re-introduced. Don’t get any ideas, these birds are chipped.

The decrease and increase in populations seems to be cyclical and with the increase of prey, predators eat. Then, eat themselves out of food and leave for a bit. That’s the only thing I can see after a few decades of living here.

What will they do when the frog leg shortage threatens the survival of the dragon fly nymph?

My excerpt only speaks to the legless population.

The article also deals with the deformed appendage population. Yet another parasite which causes the problem.

The article also contains several interesting pictures.

It took decades to find this out?

I don’t think so.

Instead, it took decades for some scientist to have the courage to ANNOUNCE the findings.

Clearly, legislation is needed to deal with tadpole-leg-eating-dragonfly nymphs.

Stanley Sessions, an amphibian specialist and professor of biology at Hartwick College, in Oneonta, New York.

Ballengee and Richard Sunter, the official Recorder of Reptiles and Amphibians in Yorkshire

The article is of course from "across the pond" but the researchers and studies are from both sides of the atlantic.
