I get orders for medical equipment for individuals faxed to me from time to time.
I used to contact the company who faxed them to tell them they had the wrong fax number. No one there cared, and they kept coming, so now I mail the fax to the individual listed on the fax along with a note.
Smart man. It’s the only tactic that really gets their attention.
Twice, I got faxes of someone’s very personal medical records, both times from the same insurance company. The first time I called to inform them, I was casually told to destroy them. Of course, I did, but that insurance company had no way of knowing if I would or, in fact, did. Nor did they even ask for my name. The second time, I sent them with an explanatory note to lead counsel for the insurance firm, with CC to the insurance commission. Never heard a word from anyone. But never again got another errant fax from the insurance company, either.
