TALE OF THE TURNOUT: WHO HAS EDGE IN ENTHUSIASM?
NY Post ^ | June 20, 2009 | Michael Barone

MANY psephologists -- derived from the word for pebbles, which the an cient Greeks used as ballots -- study who wins and loses elections.

Lately, I've been looking more closely at turnout. For, though most psephologists haven't stopped to notice it lately, we live in a decade of vastly increased voter turnout.

Turnout in our presidential elections has risen from 105 million in 2000 to 122 million in 2004 and 131 million in 2008 -- an increase of 25 percent when population went up only 8 percent.

Turnout in off-year elections has increased, too. The total vote for House elections has gone from 66 million in 1998 to 73 million in 2002 and 80 million in 2006, a rise of 20 percent.

The upswing in presidential turnout is unlike anything America has seen for many decades. To find three consecutive elections in which the percentage increase in turnout each time was larger, you'd have to go back to the three contests between 1928 and 1936.

And there was a lot going on then that hasn't been going on now.

The 2010 turnout should be pretty heavy as well.

Due, no doubt, in large part to the DemocRAT's voter fraud division, ACORN.

Agree. I’m still convinced that at least a half-dozen states were stolen from McCaint by fraudulent voting.

I’m still convinced we have a guy that’s not qualified to hold the office via his Non natural-born status, his dual-citizenship status, and he stole the election to boot. I think this is why is working SO FAST to get as much done as possible....

the DEMS are correct that their efforts at expanding the electorate in 2010 will offset any anti-Obama backlash that the GOP is hoping will carry the day.

The GOP is asleep at expanding its own electorate.
