. . . Republicans have retaken control of the New York Senate after at least two Democrats, Senators Hiram Monserrate (D-Queens) and Pedro Espada (D-Bronx), crossed party lines to caucus with the GOP. The Albany Times-Union has reported that Dean Skelos (R), former minority leader, has been elected majority leader and Espada has been elected Senate president. What this political change portends for the firearms microstamping bill (S.4397) is unknown; however, the legislation has been removed from today's schedule. The NSSF government relations team is on the ground in Albany monitoring this situation. NSSF would like to thank the thousands of sportsmen in New York who contacted their senators and the minority leader, urging opposition to the microstamping bill. Special recognition also goes to Kimber Manufacturing Inc. for arranging a very public meeting with Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D-Yonkers) in her district office, where several reporters and news channels were present.
Inrteresting how almost every headline and article uses the “coup” word. Did Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords undertake a coup?
New York freepers, what does this mean for the State? I understand that New York Republicans are like Democrats everywhere else. Will the divided government mean less intrusion in New Yorkers’ lives?
If they manage to cut taxes, there may be a resurgence of New Yorkers returning from exile.
Yah that is funny isn’t it. Coup. Can’t wait to hear them complain about the Putsch we have in the midterm elections.
