Cornyn: Gingrich And Limbaugh Statements On Sotomayor Are 'Inappropriate' And 'Wrong'
TPM ^ | 5/29/09 | Brian Beutler

Posted on 05/29/2009 7:43:07 AM PDT by pissant

As if to magnify what are already major differences between elected Republicans and conservative activists on the question of Sonia Sotomayor, check out what conservative senator (and chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and Judiciary Comittee member and former Texas State Supreme Court Justice) had to say.

"I think it's terrible. This is not the kind of tone that any of us want to set when it comes to performing our constitutional responsibilities of advice and consent."

Republican leaders may not have as much sway over their own interest groups as Democratic leaders do over their, so don't expect the attacks to stop. But it's a bold statement. He even lashed out at Newt Gingrich and the unassailable Rush Limbaugh.

"Neither one of these men are elected Republican officials [and] I just don't think it's appropriate and I certainly don't endorse it. I think it's wrong."

Folks, we are in a world of hurt with GOP 'leadership' such as it is.

It’s not leadership and it’s not conservative.

I think it has come time to massively change our party affiliation. If the GOP sees another 15% of it’s base JUST PACK UP AND LEAVE, maybe it will cause the leadership to adjust. This sure isn’t working.

Cornyn has to go. If the GOP doesn't fight this one, they will be seen as cowardly. The Dems will smell blood.

I know there are plenty of tough conservatives in Texas. One of them has to stand up and run this weak sister off the range in the Lone Star state.

I am sad to see that Cornyn has been in DC too long.

I was recently surveyed by a local political pol on a local issue. They first ask the primary question and then D,R or I. After you answered D,R,or I.(I answered I)...they ask conservative, liberal or moderate?

I called his office first thing this morning and gave him a piece of my mind. I told him if he was going to be a dim-lite, just join the democrap party, tear up the Constitution and turn us into a banana republic and be done with it. I was furious and told them so.

Rush is an entertainer. Gingrich is a bomb thrower. Cornyn is attempting to be politic.

Moderate

I’d venture to say every Democrat thinks they’re a moderate.

Just damn.

I guess my Texas Senator doesn't have a problem with this Racist, Socialist Marxist on the Supreme Court.

I guess that pretty much clears her way unchallanged by our Republican so-called leadership.

What gets me about pols like Cornyn, is that when a DemoRAT pol or activist speaks out “negatively” about a conservative nominee, pol, or “activist”, hardly EVER does a fellow so-called “conservative” come to his/her (the conservative’s) defense or publically denounce what the DemoRAT says....but they’re sure quick to publicly cast a negative shadow/doubt over/towards their own “fellow” conservative(s).

Gad! Cornyn is really disappointing me. I thought he was better than this. He sounds like he’s been lunching with Steele too much.

These politicians are so arrogant. They hate anyone daring to influence them (unless you are a big money contributor). They say to themselves, “How dare anyone tell me what to do! I am a senator.” The voters are simply people to be manipulated. The truth is that they think that the conservatives will vote for them, for where else will they go? You cannot change these politicians with threats, you have to actually remove them from office by not voting for them. It is time to clean out the cupboard.

Texas conservatives, we have some work to do. It’s time to drive these RINO Senators out of office.

You may be correct about Cornyn.

In this instance, however, I think he was merely (and improperly) viewing Rush and Newt’s right of free speech through the obviously much higher standards of his professional obligations.

I’ll still put a beer on him not voting her out of committee.
