Obama Outflanks GOP with Sotomayor Pick
Pajamas Media ^ | May 26 | Rick Moran

President Barack Obama seemed to have lost his deft touch in recent weeks as several controversies simmered then exploded out of his control, making his life miserable and exposing his administration to criticism from some unlikely sources — including his own far left base and the press.

Stung by this sudden and unprecedented sign that the media was waking from its long winter nap, the president needed a plus in his column in order to right his own ship, if only temporarily.

That opportunity came with the vacancy on the Supreme Court created when David Souter announced he would step down at the end of the current session. Here was a chance for the president, in one fell swoop, to get back in the good graces of liberals while taming the media to lie down and go back to sleep.

In that respect only, President Obama hit a home run with his selection of Sonia Sotomayor for associate justice of the United States Supreme Court....

I may be wrong here, but it’s my take this woman will never make it to the SCOTUS.

She’s incompetent in addition to the rest of the negatives that will be raised in connection with her.

With her own speech it looks like this maybe a loose shell that comes back to hit him and the whole group!! That would be very nice.

“She’s incompetent in addition to the rest of the negatives that will be raised in connection with her.”

That makes her the perfect liberal appointment.

I agree, especially since The Supreme Court of the United States just knocked her tires off by announcing today all four opinions by her were reversed.

She really must be a dumb one.

Well, we have the first Bush to thank for putting this lady in position to be nominated. Afterall, Obama can say that he “reached across the aisle” and picked a Bush appointee and the moderates will support this ultra liberal woman.

Not really trying to hijack the thread, but whatever came of the lawsuit to take Souter's property in NH based on the SCOTUS eminent domain law that he'd ruled in favor of???

Yes, that’s true. When the full extend of her negatives are known though, many of the Independents are going to have second thoughts. This individual is a Constitutional nightmare.

Not merely liberal, but an ACTIVIST liberal. She expects to MAKE law from the bench.

Not a good prospect for Constitutional safeguarding. She has only been studying the Constitution for loopholes, not for application of its limiting clauses.

WTF? It is not like this was totally unexpected. The GOP may do stupid things but they are not entirely brain dead. They saw this pick coming a mile away. It is not like BHO was going to nominate Hillary Clinton to throw the Pubs off.

boiled down, they’re saying that by picking a Hispanic, Obama gains favor with a voting group the R’s desperately need to curry favor with. When they go to the voting booth, Hispanic voters will remember Obama is the guy who put “one of their own” on the highest court in the land.

But this comes as a surprise to whom?

She’s radical, incompetent, and bullying.

She’ll be confirmed quickly by the democrats.

How is this an ‘outflank’ when she was on every ‘short-list’ I saw published?

That’s my take on it.

In the four prior rulings, she received 11 of 44 possible affirmative decisions by sitting justices. That’s a 25% approval rating.

Don’t know much about the author, but it seems to come from the Colin Powell wing of the republican party, the one that always prostrates to liberals.

As a Hispanic, and from what I have heard so far, I would say that this pick is racially motivated, and this “judge” is a dangerous person that does not represent the majority of hard working Hispanics. And I’m almost 100% sure she is pro-choice, and thus advocates the murder of innocents. Totally unacceptable. (Sorry for the rant.)

What kind of analysis is this?

The kind of analysis the GOP loves....so they don't have to fight, and risk being called racists, again.

Obummer only “outflanks” the GOP if the Republicans are too spineless to insist on a strict constructionist, constitutialist regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation of the nominee.

Come to think of it, Zero may have “outflanked” them.

You're looking at this too logically. Once you apply the republicrat affirmative action and hispandering filters to it, you'll get a 180 degree out of phase conclusion.
