A motorcyclist has told how he was electronically tagged for four months and given a 36-hour community order – for dropping mint imperials while riding.

Thomas Payne, 19, must be at home from 8pm till 6am under the terms of his ankle tag after police spotted the trail of sweets left by his Yamaha DT175.

A police charge notice said he had ‘intentionally and without authority or reasonable cause, caused sweets to be on a road, namely Lancaster Circus, in such circumstances that it would have been obvious to a reasonable person that to do so would be dangerous’ contrary to the Road Traffic Act.

Payne insists: “They were just falling out of my pocket. Because of the time they followed me for they said I should have known.”

Payne was stopped in Birmingham on March 16. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Birmingham Magistrates Court on March 24. He was ordered to pay £50 costs.

He said: “For a 19-year-old being housebound every night is hell.”

He must also spend three hours every Saturday taking part in group activities including woodwork classes until his community order is completed. “I count myself lucky I’m still allowed to eat sweets,” he said.

West Midlands Police confirmed: “A man aged 19 was arrested on the March 16 in Lancaster Circus, Birmingham, on suspicion of endangering road users.

"He was charged on March 17 and appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court on March 24.”

Tom Payne was tagged for four months

Glad to see that the Brits are stamping out this kind of anti-social, criminal behavior (behaviour). Meanwhile in other news from the United Kingdom, wife abuse has been found to be in full compliance with Sharia law and therefore outside the bounds of law enforcement effort. And homeowners are once again reminded of the severe consequences that will come from any attempts to stop theft of their property and imminent danger to their life and well being - you people have been warned.

month ago i paid a $350 traffic fine for speeding, in californazia you have to pay the fine BEFORE trial. I did a trial by written declaration, and after one month the judge dismissed teh ticket, as the police could not figure if I was speeding or not. At anyrate After my constituional right to a fair trail BEFORE punishment was ignored, I waited one month for the judge to decide.
I got the letter two days ago, charges dismissed!!!

then the fine print, that it will take 6 to 8 weeks for my fine to be refunded.

lets see thy have had my fine for a month already, two more makes three, 1/4 of a year they are illegally holding on to my money, and I am innocent.

dam police and courts are just crooks. pure and simple.

this was part of the stream lining californazia did int eh court system to expidite traffic cases. yes in the name of efficiency, they fine you first, make you pay, then give you a ‘trial” before a judge (no jury allowed) then after finding you NOT guilty, they hold on to your money another two months.

hell this crap is happening in America already.

This is GREAT news! Correct me if I’m wrong, but it appears that EVERY crime has been solved and all criminal activity has ceased. This allows municipalities to concentrate on serious offenses, such as malicious and willful disbursing of sweets. /HEAVY SARC

Big Brother really does exist in the UK. Speeding cameras, red-light cameras, cameras taking pictures of your car’s tax receipt, pedestrian cameras on nearly every street corner - and that’s just a start. I was glad to come home after working over there for 6 months. In fact the lady at the rental car place at Heathrow suggested I just drive with impunity, because if a ticket managed to find it’s way over here, it would be unenforceable. Of course this was six years ago.

“That’s our future.

Obama hasn’t told you yet, but the electronic health record he plans to give every American will detect every ounce of sugar you ingest, every cigarette you smoke, every drop of alcohol you smoke and provide this, along with continuous measures of your BMI, blood pressure etc. Those who misbehave will be automatically debited higher payments to finance Obamacare. Don’t complain about any of this because he who has the gold makes the rules.

That’s a little far fetched don’t you think?

“That’s a little far fetched don’t you think?

I think if the technology actually were available, this president would have no hesitation in using it. The man he just appointed to head the CDC made a career out of nanny-state regulations and taxes on behavior all motivated by a paternalistic view that the sheeple needed government prodding to get them to be healthy. That such “prodding” might interfere with individual freedom of choice was of no concern.

That's what I thought about background checks and licenses to carry, back about 1962.

It was around that same time that I thought it was far fetched that police would ever issue tickets for not wearing a seat belt.

I could also mention several other things that were, not long ago, thought to be 'far fetched'---smoking bans, airport 'security checks', mandatory child car seats quickly come to mind.
