A Muslim catering manager refused to cook sausages and bacon because he feared he would be splashed with pork fat, he told an industrial tribunal Monday, alleging religious discrimination.
Hasanali Khoja, 60, from London, said he felt he was at risk of contact with pork products even if he wore gloves and used tongs to cook.
Khoja, who claims he was discriminated against due to his Islamic faith, also alleges that in a meeting to resolve the situation, a human resources manager pulled faces and made racist gestures.
He said he had raised his objections to handling pork at his interview for a senior catering manager job with the Metropolitan Police Service, but had been assured he would not have to handle food as it was a supervisory role. Khoja got the job but when he started work at a police training centre in 2005, he was found to lack the required level of computer skills and later that year he accepted a more junior job at the same site.
His objections to touching pork were respected in that job, but Khoja claimed that when he was transferred to a kitchen at Heathrow airport in 2007 he was told he had to prepare, cook and serve all food products.
When he called a meeting to discuss his objections, he said a human resources manager told him he could lose his job if he failed to follow instructions and then made "racist gestures."
"I was very humiliated and stressed out and was unable to continue," he said.

What’s a racist gesture?
Doesn’t your heart just break for this guy?
Why doesn’t he go back to whatever sand dune his ancestors crawled out of? All the food there is “halal”.
He got a job at the airport. Did he say hi to the flying Imam who played musical chairs?
What happens if one drop of pork fat hits him? Does he melt? Does he have to chop off the offended limb?
I’m thinking pork fat ballons! Effective and cheap!
Guess we shouldn’t mention the number of animal compounds in modern pharma.
More creeping Sharia.
Gradually we will all be forced to eat 100% Halal and give up pork pooducts because of employment-discrimination suits by Muslims.
Muslims will get jobs at, say, Hormel or Jimmy Dean and then start suing for emotional distress and discrimination for having to work around pork products. Judges will rule that being a known pork producer is no defense against such suits. And we’re all a little closer to praying to Mecca.
I’m thinking aerosolized pork fat, comes in a spray
dispenser, like, you know , mouth freshner, maybe bacon
flavored?
It’s disgusting that the UK even gives complaints like this the time of day.
“Islam” is what you end up with when 3 year-olds are allowed to start their own religion.
The guy needs to get a new job.
Pork fat does a body good!
I ain’t giving up the pig for anyone! Love that BBQ
FMCDH(BITS)
I think you suggestion is a good one.
I would object if this guy was working for a place called “Billy Bob’s Pork Palace” and refused to cook pork. However if they are serving pork as one of many items they restaurant could easily accommodate.
FReepmail me when you start production. Or before, I'm available for testing.
Better than a perfume. The scent of baby back ribs with a nice ham undertone.
OMG, I have never heard Jewish folk bitch about Pork as much at the ROP. And Jewish people have been around over 3 times as long.
The ROP members need to grow the hell up!
Maybe they should have a “Bacon day” in London where everyone takes a paper towel, cooks a piece of bacon on it in the microwave, then use it open every door in sight!
It's like an Anti-Muslim Force Field.
“Whats a racist gesture?”
Maybe the guy got that impression when the manager dressed up in hip waders and did the bump and grind with an imaginary sheep? People under stress often confuse cultural slurs with racial gestures. BAAAA. HALAAAAAL.
