LATEST:Five US soldiers killed in shooting at American base in Baghdad, US military says.
More to follow. _
(Excerpt) Read more at news.bbc.co.uk ...
Wanna bet the killer was a muslime?
RIP, troops and prayers up for their loved ones.
Wouldn’t be the first time. Recall Sgt. Akbar...
From CNN Breaking News Email: — U.S. soldier in Baghdad kills four fellow troops before killing himself, senior defense official tells CNN.
Sudden Jihad Syndrome?
Wrong - stressed out troop.
At least thats what other sources are saying right now.
Sgt. Akbar claimed he was “stressed” when he threw a grenade into an officers’ tent.
Seems the death toll among US troops and Iraqi civilians are steadily rising after The Messiah’s decision to “cut and run” from Iraq. Who didn’t see this increasing violence coming? One incompetent, Marxist President and the millions of American voting idiots who placed him into office! And didn’t the violence in Iraq reach record low levels when GW Bush left office in January 2009? My, how one inexperienced President can so royally screw things up in so short a time!
What a shock it must have been for you to hear this.
Ok, but odds were in my favor I think.....
A GENERAL has affirmed the death sentence for a US Army sergeant convicted of murdering two fellow soldiers in a grenade attack in Kuwait at the outset of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, the army said today.Sergeant Hasan Akbar, 35, is the first US soldier to face the death penalty for killing another soldier since the end of the Vietnam War.
We are still missing a LOT of details on this case.
Articles even say he killed 4 or 5 people (with others wounded). Since he killed himself, he may be among the 5 he killed. 4 didn’t deserve to die for his action.
Dear God,I was just thinking of you.Prayers for all.Karen comes back in August.((((Hugs))))
True - but you still might be proved right since all the information on “Who” did it is not out yet.
Very sobering and so sad.
Camp Liberty is where the big PX is, as well as the food court and a bunch of local shops. We go over there for that from time to time and there's usually a lot of laughing and cutting up with the troops who are relaxing in that food court/shopping area.
The soldier’s name is missing—again.
Radio news just said the shooter was in custody, 5 dead.
Iraqi military reports said he was a soldier also working as an imam at a mosque on the base.
mosselime!
do you have a link?
Yes, updated articles says he is in custody (not dead from suicide):
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8044229.stm
But it appears from the BBC article, that it may be a reference to a different muslim attacker:
Earlier this month, a man in an Iraqi army uniform shot dead two US soldiers and injured three others at a base near Mosul.
Iraqi military reports said he was a soldier also working as an imam at a mosque on the base.
And it will be missing for a while.
The military really likes to notify the families before they hear the names on CNN.
Your guardian angel earned his/her pay this morning.
RIP.
Any word on the branch of service? Next door neighbors have a son whose a Marine Major currently deployed.
Thanks
I wish I could tell you, but I don't know. Nobody's saying anything yet; I'm sure they're notifying next of kin.
And for anyone who has loved ones at Liberty: The military sometimes disables the recreational internet connections and VOIP phone service in events like these in order to prevent someone from accidentally leaking information.
So, if you have loved ones in this area, don't despair if you aren't hearing from them. It is very likely due to a temporary comms restriction.
BTW- Are you coming back anytime soon?
It would be nice if Freepers would offer condolences for those lost instead of speculation.
Wow. I lived at Parker from January '04 to June '04...before it was called Parker. But I was there when Dan Parker was on his way over there from RSO and ran afoul of an IED.
When were you there?
BTW- Are you coming back anytime soon?
I don't have any immediate plans to. I'm heading to England in August and will probably come home around Christmas.
One of these days, I'll come home for good.
One of these days.
How sad. Prayers to the families and friends for their loss.
First, let me offer my condolences to the families of those soldiers. Don't be hating on the Freepers just because they react with anger instead of tears. The condolences are implied. We try to figure things out using our deductive reasoning, rather than filling pages with emotional expressions. The real issue is that we all know people or are related to people in some way who may be in the area, and worry for their safety in the FUTURE. Condolences are in the past.
August '06- April '07 while I was working at the JMMT. I also did medical coverage at the Camp Parker Clinic. I took a position at Iskan (D17) in April '07 an demobed in March '08.
One of these days, I'll come home for good.
As much as I love the retired life here in Texas, the economy may force me into another contract. I've already started sending out resume's. Who know's, we may bump in to one another:) (I promise not to hide out at Al Iskandariya this time)
At one time, not too long ago, Freepers offered their condolences freely at the beginning of such a thread. Times are changing.
I’m coming down there toward the end of June. I’d be happy to buy you some Popeye’s Chicken?
Or a caffe mocha from Cinnabon? :)
Give me a "heads up" when you're headed this way. I've met a few FReepers over here and it's always a pleasure.
That I’ll do FRiend. Looking forward to it.
