SF radio host Michael Savage, banned from Britian: "Will they ban my listeners too?" [on Drudge]

San Francisco-based conservative talk show host Michael Savage -- whose sharp-tongued right-wing commentary has earned him headlines across the U.S. -- is making news again: He's been banned in Britain.

Savage told The Chronicle in an exclusive interview this morning that he was shocked to learn the news that he was included in the British government's first-ever list of nearly two dozen people from across the globe who are banned from entering the nation for allegedly fostering extremism or hatred.

"When I woke up and saw this this morning ... my first thought was, damn, there goes the summer trip where I planned to have my dental work done," the "Savage Nation" host joked. "My second thought was, darn ... there goes my visit to the restaurants of England for their great cuisine."

But, he added, the issue is no laughing matter -- and represents a serious threat to free speech.

"Today it's me. Tomorrow it's someone else," he said. "My first reaction is, this can't be happening ... that the land of the Magna Carta has now become the land of the mini-Carta."

Does Savage really have a big audience in dreary old England?

Talk show hosts in Boston are being banned too (Jay Severin). Jay was taken off the air for saying that one of Mexico’s biggest imports (besides swine flu) is women with mustaches.

On his radio show Savage asked if Reverend Wright had also been banned from England.

It sounds like Napolitano gave her secret enemies list to the British woman. I wonder who else is on the list.

I agree. This is typical of the Obama crowd's devious methods to attack Michael Savage by way of Brown's UK back door.

Who is next?

I really despise Savage and think he is a big pretender, but whoa.. this is beyond the pale. This has to be laughed off of this side of the earth and now. Rush and Hannity and pretty much everyone needs to let these folks know just how foolish and wrong this is.

I can even see including Phelps on this list as they have actively caused untold pain and horror to folks by protesting funerals. This is an aggressive act that needed to be countered by a Nationwide movement of non-violent intervention via the Patriot Guard. But Savage? Come on.. gees. He whines, he makes an ass out of himself, and he makes a good point once in a while, but mostly its just not very much above ignorant prattle. He has an audience and a view point and he keeps well inside of the bounds of what a radio talk show host should do.

I do believe he has a cause of action against these people. That would be ironic. Using the overbearing EU defamation rules to back these folks up a step or two.

First Severin, now Savage. There is a leftist revenge agenda under way since conservative talk radio is the only heavily listened to media Obama Inc does not control.

Whatever you think about Savage; he is taking a lot of unecessary hits and he is standing up.

Savage is against every one of those people on the list, and yet he gets lumped in with them.

he makes a good point once in a while, but mostly its just not very much above ignorant prattle

I've said it before. I think he's just burnt out. He's been doing this for 15 years. I remember when he started. He was fantastic then. Now he's sort of floundering. When he has something prepared, then it's a good show. When he has nothing, then it's just "prattle", as you said. I know I certainly couldn't speak for 3 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 15 years.

He's too focused on politics these days. He keeps threatening to stop talking about it, but he never does. He doesn't realize it, but it's the politics that's burning him out. If anyone remembers him in the old days, he was a lot more philosophical - he was in more of a teacher mode then - now it's mostly screaming rants. I think he needs to rethink the concept of the show. Less politics, please! I'm sick of it myself. But maybe that's what his contract calls for.

Welcome to the new Khmer Rouge!

This is truly disturbing...if Savage is banned and I agree with Savage will I be banned as well? Insanity!!

England was lost long ago..this just confirms it. The thought police are in full force. Unfortunately we are heading even faster into the pit of a socialist dictatorship. Interesting times we live in.

If Savage is somehow forced off the air I will know its time to get the hell outta the country before I wind up in a re-education camp.

The difference is banning thought enemies who present no threat of violence and banning enemies who call for violence. Savage does not encourage violence and neither does Phelps and his disgusting pals.

They have been punishing Brits for speaking out against the socialist cultural cleansing agenda and immigration issues for a long time now. They are just showing dear leaders what he can actually do with his power if he will only end that pesky constitution thing.

Burning out? Floundering? Are you listening to the same Savage? I’ve been listening to him everyday for 11 years...his ratings have been going up consistently and he is hardly floundering in any way. He is the most intelligent guy on radio bar none. His show yesterday was brilliant, one of the best shows in years.

He walks the walk....and whatever you think of him you have to respect that.

Just what I pictured.....a disgusting fat fascist pig. No doubt has a long distance relationship with Janet Napolitano.

This is pretty insightful. He has been having guest essays that he kind of makes seem interactive but you can pretty much tell that they are pre-recorded. Nevertheless, these segments have been interesting. But, you may very well be right about the source of his "problem."
