This whole thing has me confused. Brother was looking for ammo in San Antonio - wanted to go plinking. Local shops were out or expensive. Then went online, and Cabela’s had 9mm at normal prices. Gee, think the press could check out the website of one of the biggest sporting goods stores in the world?
Im now convinced that this is mostly hype to create fear of those “gun nuts.”
What was the “normal” price?
Try putting some of that 9mm into your shopping cart. You will get a message telling you that the ammo is out of stock. Cabela's has mormal prices on ammo that they do not have in stock.
In 2000, it was common for my wife and I to each expend 400 rds of 38SPL at the indoor range each week. I reloaded the expended brass on Sunday night while listening to Matt Drudge on the radio. Since moving to Idaho, we are down to shooting about 100 rounds annually. It's a matter of having "free tine", "good weather" and sufficient ammo of the type we desire to shoot and access to the range. I enjoy plinking and target shooting. I purchase a hunting license each year. I have yet to do any hunting in Idaho.
Lately, our free time has been directed to riding our motorcycles. It's cheaper per unit time as a form of entertainment. It's cheaper as transportation than traveling in the 4x4 trucks. We need the 4x4s for winter weather when the streets are covered with deep snow and ice. The bikes are perfect for nice weather. Given the crappy state of the American car industry, I plan to get as much life out of my vehicles as possible.
Was in Cabellas in Hamburg PA today and the handgun ammo didn't exist. (They did have .327 Federal Magnum)
took me about 2.5 months to get half a case of 9mm from cabelas online. Just got the second installment of the order a few days ago actually.
I just checked (05MAY2009, 0744) at Cabelas. Sure, they list lots of 9mm (and other) ammunition. At close to normal prices, as well.
IT'S ALL BACKORDERED.
Most of the other online dealers specify up front whether the item is in stock. Cabelas only puts up the backorder warning when you try to put the item in your "shopping cart".
