Pro-lifers Put up Billboards on Indiana Toll Road Decrying Obama's Notre Dame Appearance

CHICAGO, May 1, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In response to the University of Notre Dame's invitation to President Barack Obama to deliver the commencement address and receive an honorary degree on May 17, the Pro-Life Action League has erected two large billboards located near the South Bend, Ind., campus.

The billboards, to go up May 4 on the Indiana Toll Road, Interstate 80/90, will read, "NOTRE DAME: Obama is pro abortion choice. How dare you honor him," along with a picture of a baby in utero sucking its thumb. They also will list a Web address, NotreDameProtest.com, where visitors can get information on the protests planned during the graduation weekend at Notre Dame.

"These billboards will be seen by hundreds of thousands of motorists, including most of the families coming to Notre Dame for the graduation exercises," said Eric Scheidler, the League's communications director. "They will help make the direct and irrefutable connection between Barack Obama and abortion."

The League and its national director Joe Scheidler, a Notre Dame alumnus and former teacher there, already have called on the university's president, Rev. John Jenkins, to rescind his invitation to Obama. They have protested at the university, and have said they will return to decry Obama's appearance on May 17 if Jenkins' invite stands. Nearly 60 Catholic bishops and scores of pro-life leaders have written Jenkins, urging him to cancel Obama's talk, or otherwise protested his decision.

"As scandalous as the Obama invitation is, it presents us with a welcome opportunity to highlight Barack Obama's pro-abortion record--something which was largely concealed by the Obama campaign and the media during last year's campaign," Scheidler said. "Obama's extreme pro-abortion agenda is out of step with the majority of Americans, and that news is finally getting out, thanks to this controversy."

One of the League's billboards will be located on Interstate 80/90 east, half a mile east of the Elkhart exit No. 92, about 15 miles east of the Notre Dame exit, and the other on Interstate 80/90 west near Rolling Prairie, about 25 miles west of the Notre Dame exit. The League has rented the two billboards for 30 days each, so they will be in place for two weeks leading up to the Notre Dame commencement, as well as two weeks afterward.

The Michigan-based pro-life group, Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, also contributed to the cost of the billboards.

Yes they will.

Wait for a post-ND-visit town-hall meeting where The First Thug mocks pro-lifers. You know he's itching to do it. And of course, he'll drone on and on about "Let's not play games. I'm willing to sit down & have serious a discussion."

Sure you are, punk. Go organize a community or something, scumbag.

Lots going on here!

Beautiful Big Billboards on the Indiana Interstate leading to Notre Dame!

Randy Terry arrested on "say-so" charges, which means he didn't do anything but come on campus, which Notre Dame officials had told him not to do. (Legal, but it makes the ND power structure look so-o-o-o bad, what with their constant mutually-congratulatory self-high-fiving on "dialog" and being "open to diverse points of view" and "engaging the culture" and all..)

Actually. two were arrested, and other peaceful demonstraters were "forced to leave Notre Dame."

And now, we're up to 59 bishops are slamming Notre Dame for their unbelievably bad decision to honor somebody responsible for what the Second Vatican Council called abominable crimes.

And in a sweet gesture, donors have cancelled $8.2 million in donations -- something sure to focus the Notre Dame Trustees' attention.

And massive protest IS on the calendar for May 17, 2009 at Notre Dame. Come one, come all, Catholic or not. It’s time to run to the roar. For more info: STOP OBAMA AT NOTRE DAME.

...and in related news...

The petition to UNINVITE Obama: the organizers have already delivered thick binders containing 300,000 signers to every member of the Notre Dame Board of Trustees and to the Apostolic Nuncio--- and they've gotten 50,242 additional signers since that first printing and delivery were made. So they'll be doing another printing!

Here's your chance: sign here, if you haven't already, and make your name live in history!

All the Notre Dame leadership has to do to get the heat off, is to tell Obama, "Sorry, YOU just realized you have a scheduling conflict. Something real, real important having to do with ---uh, job related to the, uh, world, uh, situation. The swine flu. Whatever. Regretfully, you simply can't come."

Brethren and sistren, let us pray.

**STOP OBAMA AT NOTRE DAME
PING LIST**
Unless told otherwise, I will cheerfully keep you on my list.

If you want me to delete your name, I will just as cheerfully remove you if you will send me a "Private Message".

I'm asking for "Private Message" for deletions only, to ensure that I see your request.

We have the momentum. Let's push on and win this on

The President is going to be true to his campaign promises and his sacrements of abortion, embryonic stem cell funding, etc. That’s one thing I will give that side; that they stick to their guns 100%. He will name someone in accordance with what he had promised He will, however, hold back naming a replacement for Justice Souter until after May 17th. If he holds true to what he has said, it will be somebody true the abortion cause as a pre-requisite.

I had hoped that there were a few genuine Catholics among the Fellows and the Trustees, and that out of the meeting would come at least some serious consideration of what Father Jenkins has done.

Is anybody else starting to know how Lot felt trying to find 40 just men, or 30, or 20 or even 10? The real Catholics are speaking up. Some of them were arrested today. The expedient Catholics are hoping the issue goes away. Trust me, it’s not that way on the other side.

Excellent. Very well done.

As I’ve said before, I think Fr. Jenkins is a hopeless case. He knew perfectly well what he was doing, and he did it anyway.

But Obama is another matter. He probably thought he was getting a good political showcase and photo op at Notre Dame, home of the Gipper and the Fighting Irish. No, he’s getting a faceful of abortion protest. This is not going to be some sort of triumphant occasion, it’s going to be a messy dispute that shows him at his absolute worst.

This is really not the kind of publicity he was looking for.

And it sure as hell serves him right.

Yup! Killing those ‘pre-viable fetuses’ is A-OK with the man, yet it’s “above (his) pay grade” to give a definitive personal opinion???

Feh. I hope either ND comes to its senses, or loses every single truly Catholic student/teacher/administrator enrolled there! A mass exodus might wake ND up—but then again, HolyO will probably hide a billion+ dollar bailout for the college in some stupid bill coming up! >:-(

Neal Boortz managed to offend even me today, when he decried the death of the GOP due to pro-life issues. He said that taking a stace of anti-abortion vs pro-abortion, which was a stupid version of pro-choice vs anti-choice, would make every woman in America say, “Thank God there is a Democrat in the White House!”. Boortz foretells the death of the GOP if they do not embrace pro-choice platforms. He refuses to even discuss abortion issues on his radio show. He assumes that anyone who is pro-life is an idiot not worth talking to. I have often agreed with Neal Boortz, but there are some things which cannot be compromised. FUNB. Out.

I gave up on Boortz a long time ago. He’s a textbook libertarian: LIBERAL on everything but guns and taxes.
