Orange County, California Supervisors Restore $300K Planned Parenthood Grant

Santa Ana, CA (LifeNews.com) -- The Orange County Board of Supervisors in southern California has restored the $300,000 grant it initially revoked from the Planned Parenthood abortion business in March. The board initially voted to suspend the grant for family planning services because Planned Parenthood does abortions.

After hearing from county attorneys, supervisors restored the grant on Tuesday, but they also approved a policy that would make future grants to the abortion business more difficult to obtain.

Supervisor John Moorlach, who first proposed cutting the Planned Parenthood grant, and Supervisor Bill Campbell voted against restoring the funding.

Supervisors voted to create a new policy that, among other provisions, makes it so the family planning services can't be provided in the same location as abortions. That would require Planned Parenthood to establish a new facility that solely provided the contraception the grant funds.

The new policy also restricts funds to direct health services, rather than health education -- such as the propaganda Planned Parenthood will provide area teenagers with the $300,000.

Jon Dunn, president and chief executive of Planned Parenthood Orange and San Bernardino Counties, complained to the Los Angles Times about the new policy.

"Clearly this is an effort to target Planned Parenthood," he said. "It's much more costly to treat people once they have a symptom than to provide them with the information they need to prevent an infection from occurring."

Dunn said the policy wouldn't stop the abortion business from applying for a grant next year.

The board took a unanimous vote last month to stop the funding.

"I personally have a problem with government funding of an organization that provides abortion services," Moorlach said at the time.

"When Orange County funds something, it's like putting the Good Housekeeping seal of approval on that organization," added Supervisor Bill Campbell. "Funding an organization that provides abortions is not something I'd like to do."

What an @$$! Pregnancy IS NOT a "symptom" and a baby IS NOT an "infection".

it is wrong for government to confiscate someone’s money, their labor, and transfer it to any advocacy group. There is nothing that any nongovernmental organization does, that should be funded by taxpayers. If someone feels strongly about any specific topic, they are free to create either a non-profit or for-profit organization and people are free to donate their time and money as they see fit. But it is immoral, to take from anyone and transfer it to someone else’s pet project - even if it was one which I agree with, which this one is most certainly not.

California has all that extra money though. They just give IOUs for tax returns, give some to PP and pocket the rest.... everyone else, well, let them eat cake.

so much to all them freepers that argure that abortion should not be a factor in determining if a presidential or governor cannidate for office. I am told time and time again that the governors view on abortion is not relevent, cause teh governor (and other leaders0 dont have any power to change it, it is in teh courts to decide. hahah

here is a perfect example of local pro-death politicans funding baby murder.

Pro-Life is important at all levels of politics, from school board to the president. the pro-death folks will do every thing at any level of office to promote their baby killing.

i dont care if the cannidate has near perfect record on all other issues, if said cannidate is pro-baby killing, they are unfit to lead. this goes for Steve Poizner, and Meg Whitman, two of the potential Republicans (so called, the state GOP is still offically pro-life) running for governor.

i hope whitman and poizner rot in hell, if indeed they are teh baby killer supportes that I have heard. no wishy washy crap about states rights or it is a personal choice. you are either fro killing defensless babies or you are not.

to hell with the county supervisors that voted to pay these killers. someone needs to abort them.
