N.Korea vows to conduct nuclear test (unless US apologizes for criticizing recent rocket launch)

SEOUL (AFP) – North Korea on Wednesday threatened to conduct a second nuclear test unless the United Nations apologises for condemning its rocket launch, sharply raising the stakes in the dispute over its weapons programmes.

Unless the Security Council apologises immediately, the North vowed to take what it called additional defensive measures.

"The measures will include nuclear tests and test-firings of intercontinental ballistic missiles," its foreign ministry said in a statement on official media.

The announcement further raised regional tensions following the North's April 5 launch of a long-range rocket. Pyongyang said it put a peaceful satellite into orbit while other nations saw a disguised missile test.

The Security Council condemned the launch and ordered tougher enforcement of sanctions imposed in 2006 after the North's missile launch and first nuclear test earlier that year.

The communist state reacted angrily, announcing it was quitting a six-nation nuclear disarmament pact and restarting the plants at Yongbyon which produced weapons-grade plutonium.

Hours after the UN's first move to toughen sanctions -- a freeze on the foreign assets of three North Korean firms suspected of aiding the missile programme -- the North said work had begun to reprocess spent fuel rods.

I would have no problem with our testing a few ICBMs in response. I’m thinking ours would probably work better.

Honestly, we shouldn’t have critisized the first one to begin with. We should have just quietly shot it down.

North Korea knows they can get away with anything as long as Obummer and his administration are in power. So does Iran. So does Russia. So does Cuba. So does China. So does...are you getting the idea yet?

"The measures will include nuclear tests and test-firings of intercontinental ballistic missiles," its foreign ministry said in a statement on official media.

Since their first (and only) "nuclear test" produced as close to a zero yield as possible it was likely either a "fizzle" or a fraud. I expect that either is possible given their bellicose attitude. I am still not convinced that they have a weaponized device, I'm not even convinced that they have a laboratory "gadget" since the only proof is their "say so".

In either case, if they went ahead with more testing it would serve to prove which was true. It would also deplete their supply of carefully hoarded fissile material!

I'd say "have at it and let's see what ya got"!

Regards,
GtG

If the Little Leaded wants to see a nuclear explosion why don't we arrange one for him? Sooner or later Kim is going to miscalculate and fall into a war with us. I doubt if it will be on Obama’s watch, he don't need to.
