"We vote for this scandalette's having been the product of just another bad idea from some lower-down on the White House staff, whose idea of presidential decorum may be what the late Richard John Neuhaus, priest and public intellectual, called the Naked Public Square. That is, one devoid of any reference to religion. "

The Naked Public Square usually just gets taken over by something else.
If it's not Christian family values, it will be liberal, socialist, or secular ones.

HowlinglyMind-BendingAbsurdity...you chose this handle in 2001...how the heck did you know that we would be where we are today, with the HowlinglyMind-BendingAbsurdity sitting in the Oval office?

Prescient?

This strikes me as an unprecedented event. To my recollection no President -- for that matter, no public official -- has ever seen fit to drape religious symbols when appearing in a religious environment.

Has our crack White House Press Corps undertaken to ask the President why this was done? If so, what was the answer?

Obviously, it wasn't done casually. It was done with willful aforethought...for a reason. What was it?

Is our Chosen One "uncomfortable" within a Christian environment?(one can't call the atmosphere inside Rev. Jeremiah Wright's Trinity United Church of Christ Christian). Could it be that his Muslim sensibilities are offended by the image of the cross?

The affair is certainly meaningful. But in what way...??? The answer would be revealing.
