“From a conservative’s point of view, there were three disastrous elections in the past century. The first was the election of 1932, resulting in Franklin Roosevelt’s “New Deal” programs. The second was 1964, leading to Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society” programs. The third and most disastrous election was 2008, quickly followed by Barack Obama’s “great leap forward” toward socialism and national bankruptcy.”

What does he call 1992? A picnic? We had twelve years of Republican rule ended by the Clintons and the victories of the “Year of the Woman” in the senate. We got Boxer, Murray, Mosely-Braun, and a host of idiots that year. We lost our shirts.

As bad as this is, and it’s bad, the demoralization in 1992 was worse, at least for me.

It doesn't look that way to me. Clinton suggested gays in the military and a large part of the country reared up against him. Today, gay marriage is a reality in some states.

Clinton's health plan also caused an uproar. Obama's not going to go that far with health care, but look at what's going on with banking and the auto industry.

If you want to say the mood among Republicans was worse in 1992, you may have a point. I don't know. But it was clear to everybody that Clinton won well under 50% of the vote, and that meant that what he could do was more limited than what Obama can.

Even with all the disappointment in 1992, Republicans could still believe that they were living in Reagan's America. It's harder to think that way now.
