Did they find him with his hands zip tied behind his back?! You do realize that even that would not necessarily be an indication of murder, though if it were his first attempt it would be more likely.
Many people who have "saved" themselves the first time they attempt, have tied their hands so they don't do it when they try again.
Of course, that's because most people don't understand the difference between suspension hanging (which strangulates and is very painful) and long-drop (judicial-type) hanging, which breaks the neck.

Supposedly this took place in the basement of his home--how high could the ceiling/pipes/whatever the rope/cord/electrical wire was attached to be? If he died from suspension hanging, God have mercy on his soul and on his wife who supposedly found him-it must have been a horrific sight to see/smell/hear! :*(
