Original in German; here's a Babelfish translation:

T-mobile had today a country wide loss in the portable radio net. Speaking and SMS services were concerned.

The cause of the today's disturbance in the portable radio enterprise of T-mobile is recognized. Reason was a software fault in the so-called Home location register (HLR). The HLR is responsible to make a connection between portable radio station and the associated portable radio number.

After putting the system back the first parts of the net are again available since approx. 19:00 clock. That can lead isolated to an overload in the net. We assume it can take still some hours, until the T-mobile-net is available again in used quality for our customers.

We regret this incident and would like at our customers for the developed incommodities (sic -- sd) to apologize, said Günther Ottendorfer, managing director technology of T-mobile Germany.
