The fraud is the biggest reason the rates have gone up. That and people running up their cards and then not paying for it.

That’s what the government should do something about(fraud and abuse). The rest is not the responsibility of the government. If someone is stupid enough to max out their cards, not pay bills on time, etc....it is not the government’s job to bail them out. If your interest rate goes up and you don’t like it...take your business elsewhere.

Just my two cents. I don’t like the idea of government getting involved in private business.

It’s just stupid of people to not plan ahead and be born with a trust fund.

Very true but much too simplistic

Simple and elegant. Pay your bills. Don't buy things you can't afford. Or as Poor Richard says, "He that goes a-borrowing goes a-sorrowing."

and doesn’t do anything for the people that have balances.

Are you sure you're not a Democrat? The best you can do for someone who has run up debts is provide a good business environment where they can work and pay them off.

Your type of blindered thinking is what gives the Republican party a bad name.

The Republicans give themselves a bad name without my help. This has nothing to do with party politics. At least, my view on things doesn't. The "blindered" thinking is the notion that a running up a tab on a credit card is ever a good idea. It's not. Those who have done so should pay them off, and learn their lesson. You seem to want to add yet another group to the list of subsidized bad actors. YOU, then, are giving conservatism a bad name, if in fact you have a shred of conservative thought in you.

What does a trust fund have to do with credit cards?

Tsk, tsk, you still have those blinders on. Someone who carries a credit card balance and makes their regular payments is a “bad actor” to you. That is the type of thinking that is losing the Republican party votes. Protecting them from predatory credit card companies is not subsidizing them. You may return to your seat on the little bus.

Where do all these illiterate people come from? I have not advocated bailing anybody out of their credit card bill.

Bad actor or not, they are responsible for their own finances. What are these "regular payments" you speak of? You mean minimum payments? That's just dumb.

Protecting them from predatory credit card companies is not subsidizing them.

You sound like a liberal. Are you sure you're on the right website? Looking at your recent posts, you're either complaining about credit cards or complaining about religion.

The borrower is slave to the lender. If you don’t want a credit card to dictate aspects of your life, don’t become their slave.

“99% of their complaints probably boil down to not reading the paperwork they signed...”

Rather like Congress “not reading” the Stimulus Bill before they voted it in. Of course, after looking at the 1,000+ page Stimulus Act, I’d say that reading the Credit Card terms of ALL my credit cards would be a piece of cake compared to that!
