The habsburgs still rule Litchenstein.

I already married my (first) cousin. Three kids, all fine, thank you very much.

Did you know a woman actually “married” the Berlin Wall? She was devasted when her “husband” was torn down. I am not making this up.

marriage between, say, a 20-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman would strike me as weirder and even more unappealing than a marriage involving one man and two wives

Unless she's got a LOT of money, then it seems perfectly normal and reasonable.

I said women would have to be plentiful...the Mormons did it to exponentially propagate their sect and to keep assets intact.

My great great grandpa had 4 wives and 23 kids, outlived all but the last.

If you really love your vacuum cleaner, why should you be denied?

If LOVE is the only criteria for anything, why not have the whole United States form one big polygamous union. Three hundred million holding hands across America, saying I do thee wed, and getting married at once. One big blob of connubial blissssssssssssss.

Then we’ll all live happily ever after.

Um, I don't see the connection.

Nature provides basically a 50-50 birthrate to maintain genetic diversity of the species. In polygamy, one man decides his sperm is so superior that it must be spread far and wide. That means many people are brothers and sisters. Other men are denied women and reproduction of their genes (due to a natural one-one ratio). Pretty soon when you have a small group of men producing all the babies, those related babies will have to find mates among their relatives. A restricted gene pool becomes more and more restricted with each generation resulting in sickness and eventual extinction.

Look no further than the FLDS cults in Texas, Arizona and Colorado. They are a microcosm of the problem.

Any woman who’s willing to share a husband is nuts as well.

For any who doubt the wisdom of the old mosaic prohibition of sex outside of marriage between one man and one woman, Google the report of a physician of the Saudi Royal Family. He said, in effect, they had lots of genetic diseases.

Arabs do not have an inferiority complex. Seems they ARE inferior.

Inbreeding will do that to you.

Sure, it strikes many people as a weird arrangement, but so did gay marriage -- which is now legal.

This is the slippery slope down which one travels after legalizing gay marriage. The next one is legalizing bestiality. And that, too, will happen. It already occured in Israel a few years ago when a British citizen 'married' a dolphin.
