Former CIA Director Michael Hayden says release of the memos will give terrorists a precise guide for what to expect in a CIA interrogation if those methods are ever approved for use again.
WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama absolved CIA officers from prosecution for harsh, painful interrogation of terror suspects Thursday, even as his administration released Bush-era memos graphically detailing -- and authorizing -- such grim tactics as slamming detainees against walls, waterboarding them and keeping them naked and cold for long periods.
Human rights groups and many Obama officials have condemned such methods as torture. Bush officials have vigorously disagreed.
In releasing the documents, the most comprehensive accounting yet of interrogation methods that were among the Bush administrations most closely guarded secrets, Obama said he wanted to move beyond "a dark and painful chapter in our history."
Past and present CIA officials had unsuccessfully pressed for more parts of the four legal memos to be kept secret, and some critics argued the release would make the United States less safe.

“If you want an intelligence service to work for you, they always work on the edge. That’s just where they work,” Hayden said. Now, he argued, foreign partners will be less likely to cooperate with the CIA because the release shows they “can’t keep anything secret.”
This sounds no worse that a fraternity hazing. If anything, the memos show that we were far too lenient on these terrorists.
I suppose this may not be such a bad thing now that most of us on the right have been suspected terrorists since we woke up on Tuesday of this week.
Members of congress were briefed on the interrogation techniques to be used after 9-11.
Not if we surprise them with the ......COMFY CHAIR!!!
Giving America’s enemies important government secrets especially involving tracking down terrorists and stopping their activities is tantamount to treason and anybody who engages in such activity or behavior should be prosecuted for treason to the fullest extant of the law even retroactively beginning with Sandy Burglar!
Can they use the dreaded ‘bunny slippers” on them?
“harsh, painful” what absolute exaggeration....ooh, slamming against a flexible wall, geez, a lot of dads do worse...what do the Russians do...according to novels it has to do with long objects and certain parts of the anatomy, electricity and other parts of the anatomy......get real here.....holy cow....yeah, I bet the jihadists can’t wait to turn themselves over to us....just like the Germans were thrilled to get into our hands in World War II, hoped for it in fact......
To be followed by the soft cushions.
Never underestimate the treason
that these people are capable of.
Dear Mr. Hayden,
I recommend that you keep better tax records since the IRS will be knocking at your door pretty soon.
Regards
An American
The only thing this will accomplish is to divide the country more than it already is. Maybe this is the only purpose. The timing is interesting now that the American people are starting to get organized against this admin.
This is a free gift to Al Queda. They will tell their recruits, “This is not even as bad as what we do to you in training, and even THIS is too harsh for the weak Americans today. You have NOTHING to fear from being captured.”
If (when?) we get hit again, this administration is TOAST.
The man makes Jimmy Carter look like a resolute and determined monument of intestinal fortitude.
This may be the worst thing he's done.
So far.
Key word.....”captured” !
Stay safe !
That, IMO, is one of the reasons for Obie not going ahead with prosecutions. The Senate, including all the Big Dems were well aware, as was evident when President Bush called their bluff in 06/7, maintaining they had been briefed and had not expressed any disapproval.
And Hayden’s correct. Why release the memos when you aren’t going to prosecute. To mollify his base, to some extent.
However, the end result is a typcial mishmash that not only pleases no one, but also has the potential to damage American’s interests going forward.
