Well, if they can get a federal prosecutor to take an interest in this case, it might lead to jail time for violation of civil rights - here arrest without cause - under color of law. Because the thug police chief was surely armed, the resulting jail term for him and the mayor could be VERY long.

But that’s not likely to happen. Prob nothing more that a lost reelection will result.

Now, Mr. Ford has the perfect revenge.

Get a digital photo of the mayor’s license plate.

Print it out full size and tape it to the plate on the back of his car.

Go around town running every red light you see.

Would that work? Wouldn’t the vehicle type and color have to be the same as that of the mayor?

This is where the elected sheriff of the county should investigate both the mayor and police chief for violations of the councilman’s civil rights. If he believes civil rights were violated, he should send in his deputies to arrest them.

This is why I don’t like police. They’re nothing more than bureaucrats with badges accountable to their political masters, while elected sheriffs are acountable to the people via the ballot box.

It’s very easy for police to become thugs for dictators.

An elected sheriff is the superior type of peace officer for a free people.

The mayor might object. Ha Ha! but the photo analysis doesn’t factor in model and color...jest those old licence plate nums.

It’s called a “good ole boys club”.

You can say that again. I don't live far from Duncanville, but the towns around here are full of them, be they liberal or conservative. I'm not sure if this is better or worse than California from whence I came. Half of my town seems to have escaped from somewhere in California, but hint at the possibility that some things here may need a little change and hear the screams!

On the bright side, at least I could understand the writer's sentences, which is more than I can say about my small town paper.

Yep. Where bullies go to build their egos....and corruption abounds.

Speaking of small town newspapers.... for a long time...I thought ours was an excerpt from the DMN funnies. Every Obit was finished with "and he/she was a Baptist". (or whatever)

There was a gossip column from each little community which made me howl. "Lila Mae made soup for her fifth cousin's ex-husband's daughter-in-law this weekend. She was very ill and had driven all the way from Oklahoma City to visit." "Don't forget the fish-fry on Friday." "We're raising money for new hoses on the Volunteer Fire Trucks." *chuckle* Gotta luv it.

I spent the second ten years of my life in Duncanville and graduated from high school there.

It is a real pit, full of wannabees of all stripes. As a signal of how much people want to get away from D’Ville, as the natives fondly call it, my high school class of over 600 elected NOT to have a twenty-year reunion. It was a last kiss-off to our sycophantic and petty class officers who never learned to grow up, get a real job, and move on. They never saw it coming and upbraided the vast majority of class members who “didn’t have any school spirit.” Man, it was sweet!

This year is my thirtieth reunion year. I haven’t heard a thing about it, AND HOPE I DON’T.

Rest in hell, Duncanville.

Thanks. I spent much of my childhood in a wealthy suburb that was a bit that way. Not as bad as D’Ville, evidently. But you confirm the impression I got of it from that Wiki article.

I’m sorry to hear of your experience, Cicero. I had always thought Rome to be a happ’nin’ place! ;)

Best wishes.

The banquets were starting to get a bit excessive in my day.
