EXCLUSIVE The North Shore Country Club lost a third of its members after many victims of swindler Madoff couldn't afford the $16,000-a-year fee....."One member was hysterical, she cleaned out her locker and left." The club had to lay off 20 part-timers and six full-timers and is struggling to survive with a staff of 40....membership dropped from 175 to 110. Some say the club may be sold but has fees and commitments from weddings and other revenue to get through 2009......."We're 95 years old. We were hoping to make it to 100"......one source told reporters.

Long Island Golf Club? Probably mostly libs and Bernie gave tons of $$$ to Dems to insure he was not regulated.
Why can’t they lower the membership fee, even temporarily, even just for existing members? It seems to me to be a choice between maintaining exorbitant fee structures or staying in business. Unless they’re afraid that lowering the fees to $10k or $8k for that year would allow too much of the rabble in.
Madoff is ahole for sure, but I have to admit...he had to have lived life in a pressure cooker while acting cool as a cucumber 24/7, wondering when it would all come down.
Time to let non-members golf on their beautiful course.

My daughter-in-law’s Dad lives at the very exclusive Ocean Reef in Key Largo. According to him, 6 residents, associated with Madoff ,have committed suicide in the last few months. There are some big names living there.
Is the club properly ‘diversified’? You know.... homeless, illegals, etc.
