WAKE UP CALL: TEXAS GOV. BACK RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY
Tue Apr 14 2009 08:44:54 ET

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Perry continued: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas."

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

Ok, so take some of that “stimulus” money, hire some blue-eyed white skinned experienced construction workers and build the damn border barrier fence.

Walk it like you talk it Gov. Goodhair.

Did I hear somewhere that some states are trying to assert that any gun manufacturing company that sells it's products only inside that states borders would be no longer subject to Federal Firearms Laws or that buyers of such guns would not be subject to federal firearms checks?

I think I’ve found my presidential candidate. I like Bobby Jindal and Sarah Palin a lot, but this guy has the guts to really stand up to the BHO regime.

I agree. Regardless of what some think of him, he is standing up to BO and telling him, “Don’t Mess with Texas!”

This one should be included with the definition of the word “interesting” in dictionaries...

That’s just it — sometimes I really like Rick Perry, but then he turns around and does something that reeeally ticks me off. Like the HPV vaccine thing.

If you fit all of the pieces together, there can be a good national campaign made out of a states-rights platform. If you consider Roe v. Wade, gay marriage, firearms regulations, etc., there are a lot of people on both sides of those issues that would like the federal government to butt out and let the states handle things like the constitution prescribes. If the people of a state want to, through their elected representatives, allow gay marriage or allow abortion or prohibit abortion or prohibit gay marriage, the people should be allowed to do so. The federal government does not have the right under the constitution to get involved in these issues without creating “rights” that didn’t specifically exist.

If you get an answer to that, can you ping me to it?

That is a great question and would be awesome if implemented.

I am sad to say that no you have not. Gov. Perry is a amnesty loving half-assed Rino most of the time. He will only start to act conservative when it seems politically expedient. He is “reading the tea leaves” so to speak and wants to jump on the bandwagon early so that the can say he was there from the beginning. The sad thing is is that here in Texas, he was still the best choice of 3 during the Governor’s race.

LOL...you need to keep looking. Gov. Goodhair is just trying to score points because Kay Bailey Hutchinson is nipping at his heels. This guy is lucky she is too liberal too or he would be gone after the stunt he pulled last year trying to force all of our 13-18 year old daughters to be given an STD shot.

All talk unless Texas rejects all federal funds for Texas programs not enumerated in the federal constitution. For example, reject funding for Medicaid, education, welfare, local police.

"Ok, so take some of that “stimulus” money . . "

I'm guessing you're speaking tongue-in-cheek here. I think the bigger point Gov. Perry is making = Texans are tired of DC's handouts with strings attached. So too are we in OK to the north as a state resolution was recently passed here affirming the 10th Amendment and States rights.

Any suggestions then? Looking for a winning general who likes to fight on offense for a change. I’m tired of playing on defense these last three years.

Way to go, TEXAS!

Keep this up or become like California.

I reside in California—you are lucky to have these kinds of people at the helm.

Fight the leftists by supporting these fine leaders.
