WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The Obama administration will allow U.S. telecommunications companies to apply for licenses to do business in Cuba, such as setting up television and mobile phone service, an administration official said Monday.

The move is part of an effort to open access to the Cuban people, the official said. The initiative will also include lifting of long-standing restrictions on family travel and remittances to the island, as had been previously reported.

(This story and related background material will be available on The Wall Street Journal Web site, WSJ.com.)

Family will be loosely defined as a third-degree relative, a definition that was in place during the Clinton administration that extends to second cousins.

Uh, this just may backfire on Obama and the Castro brothers.

You’ve heard, no doubt, the expression “one picture is worth a thousand words”?

Wait until those cell phone photos start flying back and forth. The truth will be out on the state-controlled horror called Cuba, and once the turth is out and about in pictures it will be hard to wrangle back to invisibility.

This is another example of BO’s ability to misdirect. He takes the pirate opportunity (no conspiracy here; just timely use of events) to distract the public while advancing radical policies.

Let’s not only strengthen Raul and what’s left of Fidel, but get American taxpayers into the game and provide the Cubans with “humanitarian aid.” In fact, the headline is misleading. I haven’t seen any indication we are going to be providing them “aid,” but Cubans in American who want to send their relatives money will be able to, thus re-establishing the class structure of haves and have nots (have U.S. relatives) in Cuba that Fidel was so hot to do away with.

Why would he send anything? After all, it’s a workers paradise. Don’t they have the best health care system in the country? Huh? Didn’t “Sicko” prove that? What could they possibly need????????

I am listening to the "descarga" on AM 710 WAQI on the web. Monday's speaker is almost always Ramón Bonachea from Unidad Cubana. Tremenda descarga!

Obama and his fellow travelers can do all they like to prop up the Communists in Cuba but they will both ultimately fail.

Dictatorships like Cuba will fall because there isn't enough money at stake (like in china) to keep it afloat.

Obama To Allow More Humanitarian Aid To Be Sent To Cuba

America's enemies always hide their true intentions behind lofty-sounding labels. Remember the corrupt "Oil for Food" program? Remember how the innocuous-sounding "Holy Land Foundation" operated under the guise of raising funds to help widows and orphans, while in actuality it supported Islamist terror operations?

The intent and probable result of this move by Obama is no different...

Family will be loosely defined as a third-degree relative

Now how are you going to enforce that? Let's get real, it's a complete el foldo.

I wish we would have invaded Cuba long ago.

All those 1950s cars would finally be freed.

When Obama said he wanted to spread the wealth, he meant spread the wealth around the world...Somalia is next in line!

Why not drop all restrictions?

We trade with China, an oppressive COmmunist State.

Free trade killed Russia, it would kill Cuba as we know it.
