NYDN: Michael Bloomberg twice ran for mayor as a Republican, but quit the party in 2007 when he was contemplating an independent run for President. He is still a registered Independent, and thus needed permission from a majority of the five party chairmen to run on their line.

An interesting question. We get told by (liberal) pundits that the GOP is dead, and yet Bloomberg is running as a Republican. This is rather odd. I expect the rats don’t want him, but if he is running then he has a good chance of winning. But besides that, he is not running as an independent, rather still as a Republican. Does he sense something about public sentiment next year?

After all, he is nothing if not a shrewd politician, no matter what you think of him personally. There is more behind this decision than meets the eye.

Yep, look what the Dems did to Lieberman. Dems always maintain strict party discipline.

I don’t care what party flag that authoritarian chooses to fly. Anyone who votes for him is a statist.

As a dues paying member of the Rockaway Republicans, I was deeply disappointed that they chose to latch on to that elitist, liberal, nanny state control freak, as with the rest of the city and state GOP. On top of that, now I have to buy a saltwater fishing license to fish the damn beach I grew up on. This is not acceptable on both counts. If the RRs want to be RRINOS, they can do it without me. As for the stupid fishing license, stamps and all, I curse my fellow anglers who sat back and did nothing. I did. So, you apathetic jerks can rot in hell. Damn you all.

Exactly what I was wondering.
