This costs Verizon ZERO, nothing, but they will take advantage of this situation.

Cell phone companies are the scum of our planet.

Verizon is in business to make money. They offer a service. They tell you what it costs. They're not responsible for raising your children.

We understand, however, that under the New Obama World Order making money is a bad thing.

But that Dad had all the information he needed to limit or prevent this.

BUMP to that.

IMHO, if your plan doesn't include texting, the phone should refuse to send text messages. Period.

This is a response right out of DU. The girl did text the messages and the charge was legit. Should she be bailed out as well as part of this whole sale destruction of personal responsibility ? You would just created a life long moocher and victim. Verizon has invested billions in infrastructure to bring you this wonderful technology, why are they scum ? This corporate bashing belongs at DU.

Now we know why the cell phone companies won’t allow customers disable text messaging. It’s too profitable and they know teenagers are the source of most of it.

I think I would give that title to Congress but then I would not want to insult scum.

I get charged for text messages Verizon sends to my wireless card for my MacBook. Annoying as hell.

As for the phone bill, the family says Verizon has been willing to knock it down to a reasonable level.

Did you not read this?   It also costs Verizon Wireless a tremendous amount to purchase physical plant and employ thousands to support operations of the largest cell phone network in the country. That is why they charge people for services. It's a business, yet is still willing to assist when things go wrong, as in this case.

My plan is with Alltel and we had a similar thing happen - Granddaughter (we gave her the phone when she was 12 and she never went over limit) went to stay for the summer with family in a different state and we didn't know our plan was "Florida".

We could call anywhere from Florida... but roaming charges kicked in where she was staying.. Anyhow we got an $800 phone bill - with one equal to that coming the following month.

We called Alltel, they looked at our account - laughed with us - and excused all the charges. We switched to the Alltel national plan and have been with them ever since. Not all phone companies are bad - ours was great.
