“What’s the point of calling 911 if they arrive within two minutes and then sit outside for the rest of the day to “make sure it’s safe”? “

Ouch!

It’s cheaper to let a citizen die or be harmed than to risk a dead officer. Apparently.

It all depends what city you are in. Most cities are lib-fascist controlled, and the police are hogtied by political correctness. In Sacramento, California, for example, the police department spends most of its time investigating itself for non-existent “racial sterotyping”, and training in domestic violence. The funny thing is, they’ve already purged many of the european-american males, so while they are busy calling themselves racists, they are also mostly minority. I think it’s time to start thinking about hiring private security and ditching government police forces. They aren’t up to the task and they are becoming agents of socialist government.

I remember the teacher who bled to death at Columbine, while heavily armed police and SWAT teams remained outside. Same at Virginia Tech, where the cops were shown on the news arriving and then spending valuable time donning all kinds of gear before they stood outside and waited. The truth is, when SECONDS count, the police are MINUTES away, or there there and more concerend with officer safety than stopping an assailant.

(Note that I realize that many, if not most, cops would want to go right in, but their SOP and desk-jockey/office-pogue leadership won't allow them to.)

Just as with 9-11, the ONLY thing that would have had a CHANCE of stopping, or limiting, these tragedies, is a law-abiding person (or pilot, in the case of 9-11) who is ONSITE and carrying a deadly weapon (normally, a handgun hidden in a holster used for Concealed-Carry).

As Steyn says, "the world's most heavily armed and lavished equipped yellow-tape installers" are essentially, USELESS in stopping these, thankfully, RARE incidents.

I’m going this week for my permit. I’ve been saving and found the perfect gun for me. A lightweight 38 special. I like that’s lighter and can carry in my purse.

Ok we probably don’t have all the facts we need in these cases, but just as a mental exercise, might it not be better if we contracted out police duties? If market forces do what they do in other industries, competition would force better police response in such situations.

There are cops and there are other cops. There was a mass shooting at a nursing home in the southeast a week or so ago that was ended when the only cop on duty in the little town arrived, went in and shot the bad guy. That’s the sort of cop we all hope will arrive when we are in trouble. Someone refresh my memory with his name and jurisdiction as we should praise the good cops properly.

After the teacher bled to death at Columbine, police from many small upstate NY communities, state police and school officials were trained in the new way of doing business. From now on, a highly trained small group of officers would burst into the facility with the object of shooting the shooter. The school officials were trained what to do when the officers burst in, weapons drawn and shouting orders. I guess nearby Binghamton didn’t get the memo.

I'll say what nobody else seems to be willing to say...those cops were COWARDS.

Even if there are standing rules suggesting they "secure the perimeter" and "wait for tactical units"...they were cowards to not enter a prevent further bloodshed.

I would have entered (granted, only if armed) as a private citizen.
