WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's vision of a world without nuclear arms is an achievable goal and the president will pursue it with an eye on the lessons learned from four decades of difficult diplomacy, the White House said Saturday.

...

The challenge is to maintain an effective deterrent as long as there's any threat in the world, McDonough told reporters.

North Korea and Iran could rule the world.

Idealistically, nuke free would be great. But, it is totally naive to think little tyrants like Kim Jung Il, Ahmanutjob and others will freely give theirs up.

They thumb their noses at the world now, with impunity, so why would they be trusted to not develop or rid themselves of any they may now have?

Of course, B HO could always threaten them with a “stern” response. Which I interpret to be whine to the UN.

A couple for N. Korea
A couple for Venezuela
Half a dozen for the middle east...

Yeah, it’s feasible.

Sure it is. And Nevil Shute’s book (and movie) “On The Beach” tells us exactly how we will get there.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “Stick to the Devil you know.”
