PROMISES,PROMISES: Obama tax pledge up in smoke.

The largest increase in tobacco taxes took effect despite Obama's promises not to raise taxes on families earning under $250,000 or individuals under $200,000. He repeatedly vowed "you will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime." Now in office, Obama who stopped smoking but has admitted he slips now and then, signed a law raising the tobacco tax nearly 62 cents on a pack of cigarettes to $1.01. Other tobacco products saw similarly steep increases. "No one making less than $250,000 under Barack Obama's plan will see not one single penny of their tax raised," Joe Biden said, "whether its their capital gains tax, their income tax, investment tax, ANY tax." The latest federal tax increase is by far the largest since its introduction in 1951.

But, government being what it is, they prefer to TAX it. In fact, they WANT people to continue smoking and purchasing tobacco products because they want the tax revenue!
And the same thing goes for alcohol as well.

I don't worry too much about smoking and my health though. I've lived around and worked in the petrochemical industry for so long I'll die well before my time anyway. It's just one of the accepted hazards.
My tax revenge is to die early! {;^)

Actually, cardiac researchers are saying that red wine in moderation is very healthy and can lead to a reduction of heart attacks and strokes. I’m a light smoker and feel I’m entitled to at least one pleasurable vice! Don’t despair! Maybe you’re one of those who have what’s called a “Churchill complex,” i.e., you reach old age despite drinking and smoking. My grandfather started smoking when he was 13 and died in his 90’s. Of course, smoking can be injurious to our health but I think there are many factors (unknown for sure) that can mitigate its harm - diet, weight, heredity, etc., etc. I remember reading that although 70% of the men in Japan smoke, they have a much lower rate of coronary illness than ALL Americans. The article attributed this to their diet - which contained high amounts of Omega 3 fish oil and low saturated fat. Frankly, as I listen to the news and about every other day hear about some common food that may cause cancer or some other disease I’ve almost automatically come to block it out. About the only thing left is tested fresh water! Oh well, let’s hope for the best! Regards,

More lies about taxes. But what is interesting is that politicians thinking they can get more revenue by increasing taxes, and never learn that tax revenues go down because people stop using products that are over-taxed.

The evil tobacco products are going to be taxed into oblivion and myself and my wife and many others we know are going to finally stop using such legal products. So, what is the usual outcome? More you tax the product, the more people stop using them, and the less taxes are collected. And then there is the underground market that will emerge.

Do liberals have an economic defect in their brains? Certainly looks so. Or maybe they are just plain ass STUPID!
