Palin, Ruedrich call for Begich resignation

WASHINGTON -- The head of the Alaska Republican Party today called on Sen. Mark Begich to step down from the U.S. Senate, saying that the state's voters would have re-elected former Sen. Ted Stevens had they known the U.S Department of Justice would abandon its prosecution of him.

The party chairman, Randy Ruedrich, said that the only reason Begich won his race was because "a few thousand Alaskans thought that Senator Stevens was guilty of seven felonies."

He added that he thought Begich should step down "so Alaskans may have the chance to vote for a senator without the improper influence of the corrupt Department of Justice."

Gov. Sarah Palin concurs with Ruedrich and believes a special election is appropriate, said a spokeswoman for Palin's political action committee, Meg Stapleton. "I absolutely agree," Palin said in a statement.

Begich fired back Thursday, saying that although he believed it was clear there was misconduct during the senator's trial, he stepped into the race "long before Senator Stevens' legal troubles began, because Alaskans were looking for a change and a senator as independent as Alaska."

This is actually quite tasty. Because the media would be screaming this to the heavens if it was the other way around.

Frothing at the mouth and panting. You know the usual suspects.

What the Commie ‘RATS did to Stevens is “chilling.” (A little Commie Lib lingo there). I see the same thing happening here in Arizona with Rick Renzi. Now that a Commie pig has taken his seat in my district, it will be, “Nevermind”.

I like Sarah Palin and all, but somebody needs to tell me why she has more guts to take on the DemocRATS than Michael Steele, most of the GOP senators (DeMint excluded, of course), and just about every other Republican “leader” in America today?

Don’t forget Tom Delay (where charges were never even filed).

Begich fired back Thursday, saying that although he believed it was clear there was misconduct during the senator’s trial, he stepped into the race “long before Senator Stevens’ legal troubles began, because Alaskans were looking for a change and a senator as independent as Alaska.”

Sure. And his party line voting record since reflects ‘independence’?

Exactly. I guess he considers being a lapdog for Harry Reid being “independent”.

Shouldn’t the minority leader in the Senate and the entire Republican contingent in the Senate be raising a big stink about this?

Sure as hell the Democrats would be doing so if it happened to them. What’s wrong with these spineless creeps?

Great point - Steele suck, methinks. Oh, Besides Sen. deMint, Jeff Sessions and David Vitter have b@lls too!

So that’s three members out of 100 (insert Barbara Mulkowski joke here) that have the cojones to be Americans.

Because from 1930 to 1994 Congress was a Democrat institution.
Yes there were 2 2 year periods in which the Republicans were in a majority but the culture of the institution was still Democrat.

The Republicans with the exception of the period 1994 to say 2002 were a bunch of get along go along good old boys (gender neutral). That thinking is back. Somewhere around 2000 or 2002 the Republicans stopped governing as conservatives and became Democrat lite.

Sarah Palin has more guts because she has more guts. I will follow her, pray for her, and beg God to let her lead us out of this horrible mess that the libs have created. Not that McRino would have been much better with his French fighting style.

Sounds like the Alaskan legislature should put a measure on the next ballot to see if its citizens would go for a special election - maybe we can get one Republican senator back.....

Well, let’s be honest, Begich isn’t going to resign, and neither would anyone else. Begich unfairly benefited from the situation, but he wasn’t the malicious prosecutor. Palin and Ruedrich are simply keeping the issue alive and attempting to cement in the minds of the public that Begich was illegitimately elected.

REALLY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! ("I'm commin' Elizabeth!")

The Alaskan Godfather of the "Bridge to Nowhere" earmark?!

I'm shocked and stunned.

If this is true my opinion of Palin and the voters in AK will drop 100 points.

Say it ain't so. Please say it ain't so.

Because Palin is truly an independent in the political sense. She really honors sound government and caring for the people rather than gaining power. That’s why both parties despise her.

Suuposedly the only way to recall is if the Dem engaged in some sort of corrution. They need to comb the books. I do not like old Senate lions but Stevens got the shaft. They should have a recall.

The GOP needs to fight with all means possible because O and the dems will destroy America.
