Breaking News: Parental Rights Press Conference
ParentalRights.org email ^ | March 31, 2009 | ParentalRights.org

This afternoon at 3:00 (EDT), Representative Pete Hoekstra (MI) and Senator Jim DeMint (SC) will hold a joint press conference at Upper Senate Park, next to the Russell Office Building in Washington, D.C., to announce the introduction of the Parental Rights Amendment in both houses of Congress. Perhaps you will be able to catch a glimpse of it this evening on the national news! Introducing the Amendment, of course, is only the beginning – and now the clock is ticking. Today’s announcement will no doubt get the attention of opponents to the Amendment, and we will have to stay ahead of them in the race to secure two-thirds votes in both the House and Senate.

Parents have no rights. The Terri Shrivo case proved it. Her husband had abandoned the marriage and was with another woman yet he got to trump their rights.

I believe parental rights in this context is referring to the rights of the parents of minor children.

I believe that it is to counter a globalist UN move to intrude into parental rights.

"The Parental Rights Amendment:

SECTION 1 The liberty of parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children is a fundamental right.

SECTION 2 Neither the United States nor any State shall infringe upon this right without demonstrating that its governmental interest as applied to the person is of the highest order and not otherwise served.

SECTION 3 No treaty may be adopted nor shall any source of international law be employed to supersede, modify, imterpret, or apply to the rights guaranteed by this article."

This is such a complicated issue. Generally, I don't agree that parents should have rights that supersede that of the spouse. Marriage is, or at least should be, the paramount, guiding factor in these decisions.

However, Michael Schiavo did abandon his the covenant and obligations of his marriage. If common law can recognize marriages that haven't been legally sought or ordained, it should also be able to recognize "common law divorces". And in my opinion, that's exactly what Michael Schiavo did when he took up residence and fathered two (I believe) children with another woman.

Adultery used to be a crime. I still see a reason to make such violations of marriage illegal so that the wronged party has legal recourse.

Orin Hatch authored a Parents Rights Amendment back in the 1980’s. NEA thinks they “own” your kids and can brainwash them at will.

The Parental Rights Ammendment is intended to ensure that the courts of our nation protect the fundamental right of parents to raise their children. The primary threat to this right is the UN's Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). There are many in Congress who wish to enact the UN CRC treaty which would override almost all American laws on children and families because of our Supremacy Clause.

Do you have a right to be told when your minor daughter has an abortion?

As a parent of a minor daughter, I have the right to deny her an abortion.

IMO, the gov’t ends where the family begins.

Only in the most extreme cases where abuse is obvious and apparent should the gov’t have any authority beyond the shell of the sovereignty of the family.

Parents not acting like parents should be handled by peers and elders.

“Do you have a right to be told when your minor daughter has an abortion?”

No - at the article link, click on ‘20 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW’ then scroll to the bottom, # 10 on the second 10 list:

“Children would have the right to reproductive health information and services, including abortions, without parental knowledge or consent.”

The Family Came First. Then the Church. And lastly, the Government. And ever it should be.

Playing devil's advocate here...be careful where you go with that attitude, it would also give you the right to force her into an abortion if you chose to do so...which I know you wouldn't, but others would point to that argument as a basis to do so. I was a victim of forced abortion as a teenager and it has taken me all these years (I am 50 now) to recover from the anger and grief although I will never fully be healed from that ordeal. I finally turned it over to the Lord, He will be the one that ultimately deals with my Mother's decision. It is the reason I fight so hard against abortion. When we put forth arguments, we need to take into consideration how they will be used against us by the opposition as well. I hope that makes sense.

It does make sense. Since I don’t think that you misunderstand me, I won’t try to explain myself. However, I will say that any right or responsibility that a parent has regarding their minor child presents a two-sided coin. The opposition will always use the other side of the coin to try and use our own arguments against us.

It seems to me that your mother used her right as your parent to hurt you and to kill your baby. She alone is responsible for that decision and for the consequences. Many times our children and those whom we are responsible for are the victims of our decisions. God bless you, and may He have mercy on your mother.

If more women took their abortion guilt over to the Lord, it wouldn’t be an issue in law anymore.

Most of the abortion issue is about “had-aborts” (those who made the decision themselves) not having anything in society or law bother their consciences with the guilt of what they chose.
