You are inferring something that is not in the article. The author says line drive, not the parents. And the article never says (that I could find) “hit a baseball as hard as he could”. Sometimes a baseball hits the sweet spot of a bat just right and comes off a ‘bunt’ pretty fast. I’ve seen “bunts” go to the second basemen as a pop fly.
Let’s not decide the attributes of the father just yet.
Secondly, I find it hard to believe the girl was “OK” for two days with an epidural hematoma. That is bleeding outside the dura mater (tough mother) covering on the brain. The accumulating blood puts pressure on the brain and then the patient presents with the symptoms written about in the article. Generally symptoms present much sooner. The good news is that the parents DID take her to the ED when she displayed symptoms of brain trauma, and she was spared. Perhaps the initial injury ruptured later. Dunno.
